2009 Acura TL

2009 Acura TL – Extreior correction.

Customer recently purchased this car and was interested in removing all of the dealer installed defects. There was also some minor paint touch-up work, courtesy of an NYPD tow truck driver.

As this vehicle was new, I assumed the products used for new vehicle delivery were loaded with fillers and silicones. I didn’t have any Dawn, so I looked for something strong. This was my first wash with Citrus Wash & Gloss ( I use Wash & Clear) and I was extremely impressed with the lubricity of the product. The foaming and cleaning ability were on par with most other products I have used.

Too bad you couldn't do anything about that horrible overbite it's got... I don't know who at Acura thought that the Bucktoothed look was a good idea.

But yeah, it'd be nice if we had one of those little things that resize pics to be small, and then you can click it to expand the pic...

Yea Im not too fond of the styling changes to this gens body. The last gen was great. Agressive, sporty, but still luxurious. Too bad they're fwd....btw....pics are waaaaay too big

I thought I made then 1440 x 900. Ill give it another look.

The interior of this car is beautiful. The steering wheel leather is like that of an Audi A8, Accumulator will know what I am talking abouth

That's my car :) I hated the grill too...when I saw it on the internet at first I was repulsed. For now I am running with it before I decide what to do with the grill. But actually...it has started to grow on me in the way only the a mutt of a dog could. I keep telling myself it looks better in person, but I think the first stage is denial right?? :) People keep commenting on its looks and oggling it at gas stations. I don't know if it is actually good looking to them or if they are staring at a train wreck...but I can always hope and dream.

I actually test drove it on a complete whim...and was extremely surprised that I liked it more than the cars I test drove. The interior is very nice, but the handling and ride is pretty amazing for it's portly stature. Some past cars of mine: Porsche Boxster, Cayman S, E30 M3, and Miata...so to say that handling and feel are important to me is an understatement. So I bought the car based on how it drives: extremely well around corners, even when not flooring it...yet surprisingly smooth on the freeway. The steering is probably the best e-rack I have driven, definitely not as good as any of the other cars I mentioned, but still pretty good. The SH-AWD is really fun under open throttle in a corner...but even in patchy snow ice...the car tracks straight without pulling left or right which is really nice.

The interior is nice... the wheel is nice and thick like the Porsche Sport Wheel, the leather features deviated stitching (white stitches on black leather) throughout. The leather is pretty good, but not what I would say Porsche quality...it smells a bit sterile to me. The seats have really nice, effective bolsters. No folding rear seat is probably one of the biggest minuses I have seen.

Results using a combination of Rotary and Porter Cable. Better cut was obtained b using M105 on the deeper scratches, all was finished with Menzerna 106 followed by an isopropyl alcohol wipe.

Exterior was sealed twice with a Z5pro/ZFX//Z8 mix. Z-8 was applied post removal. Z-CS was used the the door jamps post an Optimum No-Rinse wash. Z-CS was also used on the wheels post a Z-5pro treatment. Glass was recently tinted, so only the exterior was done with Z5pro.

Note on this particular Acura paint: The owner is a fellow Autopia member and knows how to properly wash and maintain a car. The overall swirling was minimal, but RIDS were everywhere. Menzernal FP II and a white Lake Country CCS pad did nothing to this paint. Menzerna SIP was grippy, and M105 cut, but slowly.

Are you saying this isn't as buttery soft as other Acura paint? That'd be interesting to know. It also would make me wonder exactly how careless they have to be at the dealer to introduce those RIDS.

Not soft like Nighthawk Black Pearl on the Civic and Accord. Those, when new, clean up with a black CCS and Final Polish II. This may have been temperature related, I cant tell.

I had to sand a few RIDS on the passenger side, there was one on the driver fender that looked as though someone leaned against the car in jeans.

Very nice car. I test drove the exact same model over the weekend (Different color). I love the SH-AWD. I'm a current TL owner (1999), and it's taken a while for the 09 TL's to grow on me. I'm still not 100% sold on the exterior, but overall, I was very impressed with the car.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread! Nice work!

SH-AWD is awesome. Adding it to the TL was long overdue IMO. Personally, I'd probably replace the bucktooth with just a black mesh style grille, something simple and understated.
