I never see Z's of this period running around town. Just poor build quality, I guess. It's neat that you got to help preserve this one!

great job man that Z was in horrible shape!!!! yeah you dont see them..ive seen more at junkyards than on the road!people cant handle the power!!

:bigupslol thanks guys considering this thread is 4 months old lol wow you guys make me feel blessed!

Don't know how I missed it til now...

Seeing the befores was painful. :soscared: One the one hand, I hate seeing a car in that condition. On the other, something putridly grungy like that without rust or serious paint chips makes me drool  because I can see the potential for a dramatic turnaround... which is a bit of an understatemment in this case! Nice work and lots of it! :xyxthumbs

Dontcha just love the way some people take care of their cars? I did a freebie 20+ hour job for a lady with a car that was *almost* that bad. What can I say, she was a hottie and the testosterone was raging :D When she saw the finished product her eyes lit up and she thanked me for "washing" her car. Got in and drove away without really seeing the level of results and effort. My ardor quickly evaporated, especially when I saw the car a few weeks later and it was not only filthy and caked with mud, there were fast-food wrappers, coffee cups and stray french fries littering the interior along with fresh spills and an overflowing ashtray. :wall

She sure was smokin' hot though! I had to get my trailer hitch rechromed! :D:D:D

justin i first did this car like 4 months ago when i first played with m205 back then it was finiky on this car but now its nice. although i have been playing with some new stuff. i have been using real deals leveler and and realdeals refiner. with much success! i been talking to ardex a lot here lately they have really steped up there game. man im just so busy i have 2 here at the house now another coming all big jobs! next week i have a 83 mustang with 38,000 orid miles that someguy found under a tree for sale. lol years of oxidation it will probaly be my next writeup! lol im gonna be sanding 25 year old single stage paint! hmmmmm we will see on this one. lol

Excellent work on the paint. :xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs

The interior detail needs a bit more improving though. But who really cares about the interior? The paint is spot on. :xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs

That looks awesome!

But hey I've got a question...

This is the best that I've been able to get my car to look

And this is what it looked like before I did everything that I did to it:

Could you reccomend anything? I'm getting it painted, but not for a few months

I registered so I could post a reply to this forum!!:spot

Did you polish out that oxidation or was that repainted?

Its nothing but wax wax more wax, elbow grease and some polishing!

It took me about 14-16 hours to get all of it done

Heres what I did:

Car Wash and Wax Procedure

1) Wash with hot soapy water

2) Buff entire car with polisher

3) Meguiars Smooth Surface Kit

4) Meguiars Crystal System step 1

5) Meguiars Crystem System Step 2

6) Megiars ScratchX 2.0

7) Meguiars Ultimate Compound

8) Meguiars ColoRx

9) Meguiars NXT Techwax 2.0

10) Meguiars NTX Techwax 2.0

11) Buff entire car with polisher

I'm 17 and this is my first car, and I wanted a third gen Camaro for under 2 grand and this is what I picked up, I just want to get it to look just as nice one last time before it gets painted.

I did most of this by hand and with a ****** one speed Rockford polisher, haha:lol

Heres some more pics

Just to show how the reflectivity improved, before you couldnt see anything in the paint

This is a good shot a few weeks after I got it, when the paint was at its worst

nice job buddy!

Thanks, I'm just trying to figure out what more I might be able to do to get this thing to shine a little bit better with the original paint before I get it repainted, this paint on it now is original to the car and the entire car is original so I think it would be awesome and a good thing to do for its heritage and history to get it to shine like it did when it was brand new with the 20 year old paint one last time...

I'm crazy when it comes to my car, haha

great save Barry! What steamer are you using? I'm thinking about buying one. And I can relate to the "make it easier for a bigger guy like me to clean a small interior!" comment, I'm 6'8" about 320lbs, the world of detailing is tough sometimes haha
