Hello im new to forums and i've decided to attempt my first touch up job on my Black Suburban. After re-searching and purchasing a dupli-color Touch-up repair kit that included the Paint,Primer,Clear coat,Polishing compound and 2000 Grit sandpaper i went to work!! The previous owner threw so much touch up paint on scratches that could of been buffed out it was un real so i went around removing it and fixing the deeper spots of the paint that wouldn't be able to be buffed out. After wet sanding the clear coated touch up paint so it's smooth with the surrounding paint and undetected by touch i have the haze/scratchs around the area that just been painted im looking for the the best product to use that would remove the scratches and haze so i can bring the color back to match the rest of the vehicle. I will be attempting to buff/polish this area out by hand first and the stuff provided with the dupli-color has helped and shown that it might take several attempts so fix the scratches but it was working unti i ran out!!! now im looking for something that will work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

If you sanded with 1500 or 2000 grain, I found the best product is 3m rubbing compund and a lot of elbow grease.

yeah, i figure the elbow grease will be necessary like i said it's comming along pretty decent IMO so it's not visible either by it being covered up or removed all in general i wouldn't know but it's what was supplied in the kit so i don't know if it's acutally good stuff or not. The area that needs to be fixed now is a light grey color (If that helps) so i would like to get it black again then i plan on getting the entire truck to have a nice black gloss shine.

Sounds like your looking for a good fairly aggressive polish. There are many out there that work great. I would suggest something a little less aggressive than the 3m compound which will leave more work for you getting out the marring left behind.

I would think a product like Poorboys 2.5 or Pinnacle XMT #3 would be good choices. Some other good choices would be Meguiar's 83 or Menzerna's Intensive Polish. I have used all these products except the Menzerna and can tell you they will get out 1500 sanding marks without leaving behind much if any marring.

Machine polishing sure makes the job easier too. DA polishers are great for getting out 2000 grit sanding marks.

I recently did some wet sanding myself with 2000 grit and then followed it up with Menzerna IP, however with the PC it still left quite a bit behind. Switched over to the rotary and IP was fine.

The Poorboys SSR 2.5 will work very well ... I have also had a lot of success using the turtle Wax polishing compound (by hand) that is available at places like Wal Mart

Thanks for the help folks. Any Recommendation on a good polisher to purchase & pads to purchase? I have MF towels and a couple of MF app pads but nothing that would work with a polisher.

Get a PC or a UDM. I use the pc 7336 and LC 6.5" curved edge pads but i want to get some CCS pads :bigups

Couldn't he use Meguiars #80 with a wool pad and then top off with "3M Perfect-It II Foam Polishing Pad Glaze - Dark" to remove the holograms coming from the compound?

Hit it with some 4000grit and it will be so much easier to remove the grit marks. My favourite is Menzerna SIP.

Ok this brings up a question I have been very perplexed by. I am going insane trying to determine whether to buy a DA machine or a rotary. I have some pretty deep scratches that my wife put on her car by hitting some shelving in the garage. I have spent a few days filling in the scratches with touch up paint and will definitely have to do some wet sanding to hopefully make it look like new again. I was thinking of maybe starting with a 1500 grit or 2000 grit then buffing it out with a UDM. Stephan you say that your PC was unable to get the haze out with a 2000grit paper being used. Could you have simply changed your pad to a cutting pad say orange or yellow ccs, with the same product?, or simply started with a slightly more aggressive compounding polish or combination of both and working down to a finer polish to remove any haze left by the more severe compounding. Using a UDM With the right combination of polish/compounds and pads is it possible to compete with a rotary on the tougher jobs? Please help guys, this is driving me nuts:wall

I bought the UDM and love it. Menzerna Polishing compound took out the scratches effortlessly! Followed by the 106ff Nano Polish for a crystal clear shine.
