Windex vs Stoner Invisible Glass

I currently just use Windex to clean my windows. Is there any real benefit to using something like Stoner glass cleaner?

While cleaning my windshield it is impossible for me to get it perfectly clean when the sun is shinning though it.

Josh,

Windex is good but I find it streaks a lot more than Stoner IG. I use either Stoner IG or Optimum No-Rinse diluted to the QD ratio (I believe it's 8oz/gallon of water). I'd recommend just picking up an aerosol can or spray bottle of Stoner IG at your local store and comparing the two. I'm sure you'll like the Stoner much more over Windex.

As for cleaning the windshield, what do you mean by "perfectly clean"? Are you getting streaks from the windex? It could be that or that the glass hasn't been cleaned in a long time and has a buildup of dust, etc. so it needs to be cleaned a few times before it's nice and clear.

Yeah, I mean the glass has streaks. This is right after I clean the glass so it shouldn't be dirty, but I think my problem was that the glass was too warm (did it in the sun so I could see the streaks but was a never ending cycle :( ) and therefore dried to fast.

I will probably get some Stoner IG when I buy the Mother's clay bar kit from Amazon. It will basically be free since the order will then be over $25 and I'll get free shipping.

You will get streaks with sun shining through the glass as the sun dries your choice of cleaner before you have a chance to wipe it off and buff. If shade isn't an option draping a beach towel over the outside while cleaning the inside helps. On the outside, IMO, you've gotta find some shade.

I found SIG head and shoulders above Windex and used it for a good many years until I tried Sprayway. Nice to use, no streaking and cheap.

I always hated cleaning glass because no matter how well I thought I'd done I'd always see missed corners or streaks when lights hit it at night. I now try to clean the glass in the dark with lighting shining through the opposite side so I can really see what's what. Picked up one of those Stoner reach tools with MF pads and missed corners are now a thing of the past!

I like stoners because not only does it clean well, but it foams a little allowing it to soak on bugs, etc before wiping. Another product I like is Clear Vue window cleaner.

I've never had much luck with window cleaners not leaving some sort of residue behind. Personally, I usually just use my 50/50 mix of IPA/DI water and one of my good glass towels to wipe them down. On the rare occasions I do use a dedicated glass cleaner, I typically just grab one of my cans of Sprayway that are in my cabinets.

I prefer Stoners IG over Windex because of the foaming action and less occurance of streaking. I have also tried Sprayway and find it a cheaper alternative to Stoners. Streaking is one of those things that drive me crazy and I definietly OCD about having a perfectly clear windshield. I also recomment No Streekglass cleaner/polish. You apply it like a wax, let sit and wipe (no streaking at all and you can also see if you missed a spot.). Whatever you choose, definitely do it away from the sun or if the windshield is hot. I also find that humid days can affect the ability to have streak free glass.
