What Is The Consensus On Products From Adam's

I'm considering getting one of these since you guys all rave about them. But I have some Q's first:

1. Who makes it? Different companies, or just one?

2. Are there different kinds of models? Which is better to get?

3. Where is agood online place to buy it from?

4. Is it possible to damage my clear with one of these things if used incorrectly?

5. Can achieve the same results by just using my arm and some elbow grease?

6. Take a look at these buffers I found. Are they any good? I can get them here in TO.

As always, thanks. I'd be lost without you guys.

Bill.

1. Porter Cable makes the Dual Action polisher most of us use. check http://www.Meguiars.com for the power buff clinic, their $225 machine is a re-badged on with mark up. a big one at that.

2. Well you can get a snder model and convert it, but stick to the one with Model # 7424.

3. A good on-line place is http://www.coastaltool.com , but being from Canada, try http://www.portercable.com and see if you can find a distributer in your area.

4. VERY difficult to damage the clear using this machine. It does not generate enough heat to do that like a rotary buffer can (I may recieve a rotary for my christmas, but I have not finalized it or have my parents approve it yet) .

5. VERY difficult to replicate the uniform results of the PC due to human fatigue. You can achieve the same results but you will have to rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and rub and well you get the idea.

6. I do not recommend those polishers, but that one in the middle, Wen Pro sander and polisher sounds tempting but odes not have VARIABLE speed control. The Porter Cable Model #7424 has a speed dial in which it can be set to occsilate (sp?) its polishing head at 2500 OPM till up to 6000 OPM. Its a very versitile machine. i am going to use it to refinish a staircase in a few years and polish up a piano with it.

Hope this helps,
Jason

What Jason said.

PC = Porter Cable - the manufacturer

7424 = Model number

Almost impossible to hurt your car's finish.

Wherever you get the PC, get the velcro backing plate and pads from CMA, this forum's sponsor.

Thanks for the advice. I'll read the tutorial on the megs site, and Ill contact the mfg to see if there is a distributor in my area.

Take it easy. :)

Just wondering what the thoughts are on Adam's polishes/cleaners and waxes? I have not seen much mentioned on TIB and I was wondering if anyone has used their products with a PC 7424xp or similar DA.

I have not used any polishes but the detail spray is addicting for a great smelling cleaning detailer. I have picked up the glass cleaner in trade -- seems to be ok. The Undercarriage Spray is a potent grape smelling detailing plus.

I haven't used any of their polishes or waxes, but have used their APC. It is green in color, but I can't quite put my nose on the scent. Some type of citrus. I do like this product. It works great on cleaning tires, and wheel wells.

The detail spray is their number one seller, and for good reason. Good cleaning ability, nice shine and slickness and nice smell too!

I can't testify about their other products.

over-priced for the most part, and there are equal if not better alternatives elsewhere for less money...

Not much is posted about Adam's Polishes on TID because TID is a site sponsored by PAC. :)

From what I've gathered, most of the users of Adam's Polishes are military servicemen and veterans. One of Adam's Polishes most active supporter and Adam's Polishes Forum moderators is Junkman, who is a military personnel. According to him, most of his friends who detail cars are both in the military and Adam's Polishes users. The Adam of Adam's Polishes, from what I heard, was also in the military.

Yeah, Junkman is a regular on another site I go too,(car site not detailing). I wanted to get some professional opinions here. Honestly I have had my eyes opened since I've joined here and learned of so many products I have never heard of until now. Thanks for the comments guys.

One could make that comment about virtually any brand.

The pricing is similar to other similar brands (Griots, etc) that focus on customer service ...not lowest cost product around. This includes a nice web site, a discussion forum, educational videos, personal customer support, supports car related forums, attends shows, detailing clinics, etc.

A lot of Corvette guys use Adam's products, primarily because Adam's Polishes is a Sponsor on Corvette Forum.

WAS and they didn't last long at all. What really was unfortunate is they had some rules applied to protect them that the CF decided to keep after Adams left the CF. Can only post pics of corvette details over there.

It all started when someone was posting exotic car details using other products (even though the products used where sponsored on the forum.) So they could not compete with that at all. Cried and got the rules changed and then still could not compete so they left the forum.

Then a few months later they screwed over some distributors, who where not happy at all and posted their experiences on the CF.

On another corvette board where they are the only sponsor, I have had corvette details removed by the admins of that board. They would never reply as to why. As usual Adams could not compete with good detailers that use other products. There where not any rules posted against what I did.

As a proud member of the USAF for 6 years, I would never use their products. If a company has to use underhanded methods (such as having threads removed when other products are used) I could care less who else uses them.
