What do you hate the most about Detailing?

Been lurking for a while; but I have a new favorite hate.

I just replaced by Subaru wagon with a new Subaru WRX wagon, and then upgraded the front brakes. The caliper to wheel clearance is about 5mm; and the high performance street pads dust like crazy.

So, cleaning the wheels of that car is my new one. The wheels have lots of nooks and crannies that collect dust. Then, it's a tight squeeze to clean 75% of the inside of the wheels. Then, I have to roll the car a half turn to clean the part of the inside of the wheel that the caliper covered.

I hope to have the car in condition to photo soon. I was rushed two weekends ago when I got it -- so I only did the ABC and one coat of Z2. The Valuguard B didn't completely take care of the contamination and there are a couple of places where the paint could use a bit of work. So, I have on the agenda to wash, clay, PPCL (or maybe spot PI III machine glaze), then Z2. Also, I have to paint the rear hubs and calipers black to match the front.

The bottom of your car where the fenders, bumpers,

and rocker panels start to turn under. Also mud flaps.

You get a lot of dirt on your mitt or towel and you break

your back.

Also :

Post-wash drip stinks too. You go out for a nice quick

drive after you spent an hour washing your car and what

do you get, post wash dribble down your doors and rear bumper.

The nosey neighbors always peeking out the window and then coming over to talk when I'm busy.

He's a Turtle Wax guy and everything he has is "the best".

Lawnmower, car, tools, house paint...it doesn't matter.

I'm just like, "Yeah, yeah...yeah you're right. Really? I didn't know that? LOL

People who think they're the best.... just tell them your getting to the point where you are about to use their “perfect lawnmower to run their face over. The visit’s should stop.

For me it's washing the wheel wells.

I don't want to take the wheels off 'cuz they have locking lug nuts on them and I don't want to run the risk of the tire iron coming off and scratching my rims.

Second, would have to be polishing the mufflers of my T-Bird and

Mustang.

Yaz

Yaz,

I use a Oneeda [ i think that's the brand] flat sponge stick.

I'll try to describe it. It's a plastic white handle about 2 feet long

with a square [ about a cigarette pack size] flat scrubbing type

of sponge at the end. You can find this at your local harware

store.

Maybe you have enough room around the wheels if you angle

it a little. Made my wheel well cleaning a breeze.

I just dip this in a peel of Ivory Liquid wash.

I use another clean one for applying vinyl treatment after

wheel wells are totally dry.

I don't like cleaning anything close to the ground. At 6'4" its a looong way down there to clean. Roofs, trunks, and hoods are my friends.

I guess I'm weird; I like cleaning windows. I get alot of satisfaction from getting the right. I've had cars with hard-to-clean ones and easy-to-clean ones and am always interested in new glass cleaners and tools to make them look perfect.

I'm with Brad on the drip thing. I hate how even after the car is dry, water will still pour out of the weirdest places. And then you always drive by a dust storm that turns the water runs into mud. Grrrrr..... I totally believe that QD was invented after such an incident.

Most definately windows for me also. Everytime I think they are spotless, I end up seeing another smear when the light hits it from another angle. So annoying. I also hate picking up the hose and when I drop stuff to the ground.

Henry,

Here's a tip: Don't use your tongue to polish the cig lighter. The same thing used to happen to me too until I stopped sticking body parts into live circuits. Hope this helps.:p
