What are your Holiday weekend plans?

Visit my daughter in Florida and then the hardest part- leaving her, FL sunshine and my beach house to go back to England to care for my Dad

A friend of mine came into town for work, so I decided to start the bbq'ing early. Right now as I type this the brisket is on the grill, smoking slow and low with mesquite. I've got some beef ribs in the fridge right now, that I rubbed last night and put in a beer marinade and the wife just went to the store to get me some yard bird. She's going to make some rice and some beans (that's just how we messicans roll) which will be accompanied by a nice, spicey homemade salsa. Not the kind you in New York City either, for those that remember that commericial..lol.

Man... that sounds good!

I can't get through a July 4th weekend without Bar-B-Q'ing!!!:cornut:

I'll be at home doing a few things around the house and maybe do some polishing on a fender too. Family gone for the weekend....:D

Hey GEWB... post your pictures. Even though we're a bunch of car junkies, we need a little culture in our lives!!!

Hello Bill -

So this morning I got up before 4:00am and headed for the mountains, Mnt. Evans to be exact. It has the highest paved road in the continental US, topping out over 14,000 ft. It was 37F with a 15 mph wind - darn cold!

This road is for car junkies and cyclists - saw about 100 bicyclists training for a race. In past years I have seen auto manufacturers testing future models but none today.

Summit lake (12,830 ft) was mostly frozen; not many flowers yet so I went down to tree line to shoot the bristlecone pines at the Mount Goliath Natural Area. Some of the trees are 1,600 years old.

Hope you enjoy a few pics,

Regards,
GEWB

Wow! What a gorgeous place to spend a long holiday weekend!!! Wish we were there!:hurray::p:hurray::p:hurray:

Be sure to pack a good jacket if you go to the summit!

BTW, the only area of perma frost in the lower 48 is up by that little lake.

Regards,
GEWB

Yup - so nice that I went back up this morning (Sunday). Not much sun but some long enough to get a couple flowers and a really neat lonely bristlecone pine.

Regards,
GEWB

Thanks for the breath taking  views! The pictures of the tree bent by the wind remind me too much of work - The fan never quits, nor the supply of road apples...

Thanks for your reply.

"Breath taking" is literal as the air gets thin at that altitude. One can tire quickly.

You should try opening a bottle of bubbly at 14,100 feet! Don't do it in the car unless you want to do a major interior detail job...and don't ask how I know. :w00t:
