Waffle Weave vs. Absorber.....

I have both the "Big Blue" Drying towel (waffle weave MF) and the Absorber synthetic chamios (sp).....



After using the Big Blue for about a month now, I really prefer the Absorber.



I know that I am in the minority here, but the Absorber just seems to do a better job for me. Yes, I do need to wring it out a couple of times during the drying process, but that only takes seconds.



Anyone else share my Absorber-passion?



Or is Big-Blue the gold standard?
 
I was such a die hard Absorber fan before I found waffle weave towels. I still use my Absorber to dry my engine because it is so durable and just never seems to wear out. I prefer the waffle weave because it is so much larger and I don't have to wring it out ever. It just speeds up the process for me. Speed and safety are important and the waffle weave just edges the Absorber out on the speed part. If the waffle weave was the size of the Absorber then I'd probably pick the Absorber.
 
I love the absorber... i admit, that i have never used a waffle weave, but if the absorber ever breaks or wears out i may buy a waffle weave. Until then though, i am 100% absorber:xyxthumbs

I was thinking about picking up one from Tom Gong @ JT International they have 24x46 inch for 12 bucks and 28x54 for 16.50. Would those be the same as CMA's big blue towel. Sorry if I thread jacked but its basically the same subject.:xyxthumbs
 
They may or may not be the same. All waffle weaves weren't created equal. Some are softer than others. I've got a couple different types of waffle weave and they all please me equally. I don't think you can go wrong. JT International has a good reputation and I doubt you'd get ripped off buying anything from them. Once you try the waffle weave you'll wonder how you lived without it. It is a pretty darn good product. Its size is the advantage. It just keeps going and going. I've seriously never wrung out that towel once.
 
I use both. I have a smaller (16x24) waffle weave and the Absorber. I sheet off the majority of the water with the hose, and then blot with the Absorber, and then run the waffle weave over everything for the final drying. Works great and fast, leaving no streaks. BTW, my waffle weave is from JT. Great towel. Lots of water uptake capacity, and no lint. Nice and soft too.

You can minimize the water on your car by either running water over it straight out the hoze (once you have washed the car) starting from the top to bottom, or use an electric leaf blower. Thes ways will remove most of the water on the car and only one good size towel would be used ;) .
 
I used the Absorber for a while. Had to ring it out many times and it always left streaks. (I have a black car.) Got the Big Blue from CMA a few weeks ago. The results were outstanding! Dried the whole car (a four door) and the towel barely felt wet. Great product. My Absorber will probably just collect dust now.
 
The one question I have is how you guys use the absorber to "blot" dry the car. I have a blue one, and it doesn't absorb for SH%#, unless of course you let it stick to the car and DRAG it across the finish.....OUCH!! Anyway, I use a waffle weave from MF Tech and a few smaller MF's to dry after a spot free rinse....very happy with that.:xyxthumbs



Will be using a few Pakshak's in a few days too!!

I only use one JT 24x46 waffle-weave to dry the whole car without wringing it even once and it STILL could absorb more water. I sheet off the water first with garden hose.

Ditto.



I liked my Absorber but it left trails of water and I had to wring it out a few times, I dry wheels with it now.

I have 4 Absorbers that never get opened any more. That should answer your question ;)



My WW is barely damp after drying the entire car (with no wringing). Can't remember the brand off the top of my head, but it is green and 54" x 20some or 30...it's HUGE :bounce

If you clean the absorber after every wash and the car itself is clean after the wash then there should be no problem if you drag it across the finish.



I think the absorber is great. I get most of the water off by using the absorber and get the streaks with a pakshak MF towel.
 
I used to use the Absorber to pat-dry my car, which takes quite a bit of time. I eventually bought a ww from JT Int. and love the thing. I'd recommend his towels. Definitely go for the bigger size, and maybe even 2 of them. By the time I'm finished drying my Integra, the large ww from JT is pretty much saturated with water. With a larger car than that I'd want more than 1 of them.
 
Starting from a fresh state, I hardly find times where my absorber outperforms my waffle weave. The one time it does is when the waffle becomes very very wet, and wringing it out only does so much. The absorber can be "renewed", whereas the waffle cannot be fully restored to the starting state without drying it. For drying a freshly washed car, I prefer to use two waffle weaves rather than wringing out my absorber 10 times.
 
Justin: Ditto.....that's what I plan to do....I am getting a Big Blue to compliment my MF Tech Waffle Weave, then I will use those two to dry.



Estoril: I actually was thinking that same thing as you with regards to the absorber....if everything is clean, why not drag it. I guess the argument is that if you haven't clayed and there are some microdebris on the car, you could potentially scratch the surface.....I think the absorber works great, but I was worried based on what a lot of the other members had said previously. The reason I had bought one in the first place, is my buddy used to use one on his 1999 pewter hardtop vette. Maybe I will save it for when I clay only.....:D
