Vroom, Viking MF Towels

The orange ones just aren't as plush as the gray ones. I've used them both, but definitely prefer the gray.

What are the prices if i go there? So vroom are basically the best for OTC out of anywhere? Im guessing the grey ones are more expensive, so use those on paint and orange ones for interior/wheels?

I don't think the Vrooms are the best OTC anywhere but as many others have said and I agree, they are very good for the money. I have had great luck with the greys as well, although they are fairly new- not a trace of lint.

They were $7 for 4 at Target. I'm not convinced that they are the best OTC ones, but they are very good for $1.75 each.

So where are better ones? I thought OTC ones were cheaper. Theres only a few stores with somewhat good MF's. Walmart/kmart/target/costco.

Mothers, Viking (the best IMO), and Meguiars (if you can find them in stores) are the better OTC towels out there. They are not necessarily cheaper though. You pay for what you get unless you can catch a sale or something.

Another store you can try is Pepboys, if it is in your area.

You are fine with the Vikings for paint. The Vrooms are OK, but you don't need them unless you want to get something to do wheel or door jamb duty. I had a bunch of the orange ones and at first thought that they were nice, but then I got a second batch where one of the towels failed the CD test by scratching the CD with the edging. Inow only use them for the wheels and door jambs.

how do you actually do the cd test? Do i just rub the towel across the back or is it the edge (Seam)? Where can i just buy vikings MF, not the bundle package for $9.99.

You can find the individual Viking towels at Kmart and Sears.

Basically you want to duplicate exactly what you will doing with the mf's when you use them on your paint.. except on the data side of a cd.

If you are using it to ONR, get it wet with ONR and do a CD test

If you are using to QD, spray the QD on the CD as you would on the paint and wipe

You should also try and duplicate the amount of pressure you would "normally" use when doing said routine

the viking/mothers are better quality than the vrooms no doubt about it. if i were to use the vrooms, i would rather use the grey ones than the orange. also, the batch of orange vrooms are inconsistent and i can tell just by feeling and looking at them (yes, i nitpick)...

I kinda think micro fiber is becoming like all the waxes out there...lot's of hype. If it costs more it must be better. Yeah right.

No, there really are differences. Some are real thin and can even scratch, while others are thick and soft like a nice cotton towel.

why does it matter if there thin or thick? The layer is still microfiber with tiny little hairs in it, so why would it scratch? Do you really need big fat plush ones?

The idea with the "big fat plush ones" is that any contamination (say, if you are QD'ing) has some depth of fiber to be "absorbed" into which makes it less likely that said particle will be ground into the surface.

In this context, microfiber towels are tools, and certain types are better suited to certain jobs. If you go into Sears and they have 40 kinds of screwdrivers, it's because there are certain fasteners or circumstances where one of those 40 might be the best. That doesn't mean that you have to have 40 screwdrivers in your toolbox, or that you can't get by with 3 or 4.

Mothers if you can find them has a great detailing towel. But I am going to break the trend. I like a very high quality towel. Chemical Guys Elite Ultra Plush fit my needs. But they have to be ordered. I am not saying what you are using is not good quality. I do know CG's towels are great overall towels.

The Green Viking towels are really top notch. As some of my boutique towels have started to fade after years of use I replaced them with the green Vikings. I see no difference in quality and they are lasting quite well so far. I will add that you can probably get a better deal online with bulk purchases of boutique towels. Kmart charges somewhere north of $5 per towel IIRC, but the convenience and immediate factor sold me (really needed some new towels).

As stated before every towel has its place in detailing. I use some towels to wipe polish residue, others for wax, waffle weaves for drying then there are the wheel duty towels, door jambs, interior towels and the plushest for QD. As some towels age they get demoted until they reach the bottom.

I'm not doubting there are differences, I just think the extent some people take it too is silly.

I'm waiting for some "rare" Egyptian micro fiber towel that sells for $1000. At that point I throw in the towel. No pun intended.
