turtle ultra gloss liquid wax

so if i use abrasive polish i dont need a pre wax cleaner? but i thought the pre wax cleaner takes off left over wax and such?



your list there looks like mine except the clay part. since i have to clay already ill give it a try when i park my car in the garage.



i really want to use the mother or meg sealer and glaze...so anyone recomend any less expensive waxes? under 15cdn which is i think about 12 usd.

The abrasive polish will take off any leftover wax you have on the paint.





The cheapest wax I have is NXT for $15 USD. I haven't used anything cheaper than that for over a year. I guess I would recommend Gold Class for $10 USD. It's not very durable but it does have a nice shine.
 
if i can find the nxt ill get that instead since it is not that much more.

One more thing:



Since NXT and Gold Class both have light cleaners, either one of them would remove some or all of the Mothers S+G.

Most of the cheap waxes have cleaners in them, because the people that aren't willing to spend much on products prefer the ones that claim to do everything in one step.
 
Nothing wrong with cleaner waxes for non-professionals. Sometimes a cleaner wax just fits the job better. The wifemobile only seems to go down for short periods of time, so I can't get it for a half a day; I have time to get the interior done and slap a quuick coat of cleaner wax on it, and it's back out on the road.

Assuming you can look beyond Cdn Tire, I think a good option for your LSP would be Meg's #16. It is cheap ($10-$15 USD depending on where you get it) and an excellent product that will do just what it supposed to do. Given all the prep, your surface should be excellent and ready for a pure sealant or wax.



Hopefully a local retailer has #16, or check a body shop supplier. IMO you will be more than satisfied with it especially since you care for the paint on a regular basis.:xyxthumbs
 
Megs #16 is getting pretty hard to find in Canada. NXT is $30.00 Cdn. Gold Class Is $20.00 Cdn. I think the Mother's Scratch remover is about $12.00 at Cdn Tire. Megs ScratchX is $14.00.



For $25.00 I would go with the scratch remover (either one) and Mother's Cleaner wax ($12.00 for paste, $9.00 for liquid). If you don't already have some microfiber cloths, I'd recommend getting some. And some yellow foam applicator pads, or some terry cloth (100% cotton) rags for application. (none of the listed products come with any).

If you decide to get a clay kit ($25.00 Cdn.) you'll get 4 oz. of Mothers cleaner wax (liquid). That should be more than enough for 1 car (I use around 1-1.5 oz./car, but that's applied thin. If you're just starting at this, you'll likely use more.)

As you've already noticed, the 3 step systems are going to cost well over $30.00 Cdn., but if you're willing to spend the $$$, I'd go with the Mothers system, as, in my experience, Better results are had. I did notice that the Mothers wax can get a little tough to remove if you let it sit too long in the sun. Always try to work in the shade.

Quite right, my English can be very poor.



What I meant to ask is, the talk has been about using a wax and I wondered if this means using a wax exclusively or would sealants also be considered.
 
Unless you were to consider Nufinish or NXT as a sealant, Canadian Tire doesn't carry any. I was going with what Cdn. Tire carries.
 
BigLeegr, Nufinish and NXT are probably considered as sealants.



Having said that, obviously cost is a factor, and bang-for-your-bucks, your original recommendation of Mothers products is the way I'd go.



As I always state, and will continue to, Mothers under-promises and over-delivers. Period.
 
Yep, I know they're considered sealants. I meant that Cdn. Tire is limited in that category, but didn't want to say they don't carry any. I was thinking that these 2 weren't quite what Lowejackson was meaning (more like Klasse and such, I was thinking). Too bad we can't get stuff like Reflections at the local stores. :(
 
I do some occasional 'quick' detailing on vehicles and we ususally use Meg. Gold Class. What I mean by quick detailing is wash, dry, coat of Gold Class with a Craftsman low speed polisher, and interior clean. GC is pretty good if you want a quick cheap shine, but I do not like it and it wont touch my C5. It does have some cleaning properties to it, but if you accidentally get some on some rubber or plastic trim, you can kiss it goodbye. It is a trim's worst nightmare! I would recommend NXT over GC even though I have never used NXT.
 
I still don't get what is the stigma of turtle wax.... Maybe because I didn't grow up in the US.



This product in specific, turtle ultra has killer looks, and its a joy to work with. Decent beading, decent durability. Not great smell, but the car doesn't care about the smell. It doesn't stain rubber, and it is among the easiest products to remove. At the price it sells, it is easily the best value for a retail product.



The only downside that I see to its intended audience is the cleaner agents.... they are so mild I hardly call it a cleaner wax. Not a true layerable product, but 2 coats definitely look better than one.



NXT and EO nano are shinier, but neither of them can match the depth on the turtle ultra. In fact, given the passion many autopians feel for the depth of carnaubas I am surprised almost no one else has tried this one. This is a blend syntethic - montan wax, so that is why is easy to apply / remove and looks very deep. If you like shine shine this is not for you, there are shinier products even at retail. If you want depth and warmth, only carnaubas can beat the turtle ultra.



You mention your car has oxidation, then get a paint cleaner first, the cleaning agents of the turtle ultra won't tackle the oxidation. Then, apply the wax and see for yourself. Or you can try Nu-finish and then top it with the turtle ultra.... Nu-finish, while almost hated by the autopians is an excellent oxidation remover and quite durable... smells nasty, stains everything except paint, mediocre looks and doesn't last a year, but is the a true sealant with strong cleaniners, and still will last a while.



Thumbs up for the turtle ultra!! :up I know many of the guys are afraid to even try something whith a shelled reptile as mascot, but this one is really good. Ah, and the quick detailer is also top notch. Not the shiniest QD, but surely adds depth to the paint.

Has anyone used the 'Finish 2001' stuff ? Its made by TW and i have found it pretty decent for the price. I bought a bottle for $6 at Walmart. Its easy to use and beads quite well after a couple of coats.



I applied a second coat on my Sunfire in November and after all the salt here, it still beads after washing it on Saturday.
 
As has been said in the past on this forum,



Prep is the KEY to a good looking surface. Once the oxidation / swirls, and any other problems, are removed an LSP becomes the "cherry on the whip cream" so to speak. (hmmm, interesting name for a new sealant, no?)



Products like TW would be fine to use in this case. Depending on one's location and availability of car care products TW or Finish 2001 might might be all that's really needed to seal in the finish.
