Tire shine will do far less damage for undercoating than going through a mud puddle. Undercoating washes off relatively quickly, depending on the product. If it is a creeping rust proof, it goes away quickly. A heavier product with more petrolium will linger longer.

Weight is the enemy.
A tire shine should do well, a solvent based one should last longer.

If you use solvent based it will turn gray colored when the water hits it....Water based is about the best

For wheel wells, I fill up spray bottle with 1/3 Auto Magic's Super Dress It and fill up the rest with water and spray wells. This Porsche I wash weekly still has a glossy well when washed. It still looks streaky because just sprayed before taking photo but shines evenly when dried.

I've always liked the idea of dilluting a dressing for wells. lately i mainly use no touch, but it has a bit more gloss than i likle.
most of my dressings are waterbased. are all waterbased dressings dillutable?
--no touch seriously wet tire shine sucks. if u use it as directed it give an oily slick tire that slings. if u buff it off it leaves streaky marks on u're tire. not worth the money. the regular no touch in the white can with black top works well and leaves a good sheen on the tire. i use it primarily to dress my wells since the aerosal spray lets me dress it evenly.

today i washed in my wheel wells with simple green and it left streaks everywhere i sprayed it. i went over them with some meguiars nxt insane shine but you can still see them slightly. is there a way to remove the stains? or should i just use this as my excuse to remove them and paint them red to match my truck?

I will usually wash the wheels with car wash soap and a wheel brush.
Then I spray them with AA Tire Foam. I am not really an AA fan, but it dries non-sticky, non-greasy, and makes the wheel wells look like new....
I usually do this before washing my car, because of overspray on the fenders and the wheels.....

I use Eagle One Wet and then wipe down the wheel wells with the same foam applicator that I use on the tires. You can get those tire swipe things at dollar stores, so they are fairly cheap to use up this way. It helps get the look a little more even. The only thing that sucks is that sometimes you end up getting it on the suspension or the frame and you can't necessarily get all the way back there without taking off the wheel. On show car details I take the wheels off, so it doesn't really matter, but most of the time just wiping it down with some tire shine makes them look a whole lot better.
