Thinking about Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Jett, kinda confused about Prime though

FYI, according to Jeff Werkstatt to whom I spoke moment ago Prime Acrylic has less cleaning power than Prime and would be good for scenario when one will achieve cleaning by some other means first.

Thats the answer i was lookin for.

I dont need anything with alot of cleaning power, almost none would be great.

If i need to have something with cleaning power i would rather just use #82 or OP or FPII etc.

Jim, just quickly (not to hijack the thread) what would be advantage of buffing with Polartec when compared to buffing with micro-fiber or, even better, micro-suede?

......it was simply the softest fabric I have in the house. I have a couple of different sheepskins and - by touch - Polatec is even softer. I don't use it with enough pressure to generate heat to speak of. I used it on a 7" polisher but am a little afraid using heavy muscle on most of my cars, so I made some 6" bonnets for a cheapo, palm style polisher from Harbor Freight.

This electric DA-type gizzmo is a quick/easy way to do a quickie last rub. I have no scientific reason to do this; I make things ...I'm compulsive that way. ..this whole shine thing fits right in.

About Jeffs tho.... I've got about four coast of Acrylic on my wheels after using prime, but wonder if Caranuba would shed the dreaded brake dust better? My wife's ML which is driven daily makes nasty dust. I got the body looking good most of the time, but she carps about the wheels. (No - "Hand her a bucket." is not what I'm looking for...)

Cheers.

Since you have a nice layer of protection on those wheels, it should only take 5 minutes to clean the wheels using a QD and a spare MF. Meguiar's has just released a QD specifically for wheels, haven't tried that though.

You could also try products claimed to be anti-static, FK 425 is often recommended in this regard. Just remembered: Wheel Wax is also supposed to prevent the brake dust from clinging to the wheels, by making the surface anti-static.

Also, as confirmed by Jeff W. himself, Strong has same amount of acrylic polymers as Acrylic but because of more cleaning agents in Strong edge in durability goes to Acrylic. So my preference will be to clean/polish with whatever I prefer, then Prime Acrylic, and then AJ/AJT.

Zet: Great idea... I got a gallon of ACL STATICIDE which is a chemical I can spray. It reminds you of RAIN-X in both the way it smells and dries.

I got it because we made some covers for the Czech L-39 and they have large areas of Plexiglas. When you pull cloth over them it makes a negative charge and attracts dust ...which could scratch the Plexi the next time you put the cover on.

I have the perfect car to test it on: a Ford Escape that I put 30mi per day on and makes tons of brake dust. I'll do half a wheel and report back. I have to wait a couple of days as it is 35f. here for the next few days.

Thanks man, that is now the plan :D

... and just few days ago I ordered Prime Acrylic and AJ. ;) Have little competition between that and Blackfire line in mind once weather warms up enough that I can work outside (no garage for me).

Wow, fast shipping.

I got my Prime and AJT today (just ordered it Monday night).

I'll get a chance to use it in the next week but from first going's over Prime looks and smells exactly like AIO from Klasse. I'm sure there is a difference since they apply differently but they have to be similar.

I can't wait to go over the car with Prime and then a coat or two of AJT.

Definitely fast service from Jeff.

+1 for fast shipping. Ordered mine like Tuesday came yesterday.

I have to waite for tax returns. I dont *have to* but im ordering a crap load more of supplys/products and would rather waite till i can order all of it in 1 day.

I know this is a car forum but: Anyone know if you can use the jw products on a fiberglass boat? I have a 2 year old boat that has always been waxed, but I want to have the extra protection of the acrylic/sealer. I was thinking of using strong with a with a cutting and/or polishing pad on my pc. I have been told that fiberglass gel coat is harder than paints so a little extra "power" might be better for cleaning/polishing the gel coat. I was going to then top with ajt. The boat also has imron paint on the hull sides which I assume will have no problem accepting the prime/ajt.

forgot to ask, what is the proper surface prep for intial application of strong? can I just use onr to clean then go right to applying strong/ajt?

yes. I would make sure surface is smooth. If not, clay. If fine, go to prime.

I can tell you from experience that AJ goes on smoother and easier over Prime or AIO than Optimum Polish. Prime leaves the paint very slick so AJ glides on over it.

You don't have to use it, the only requirement for applying AJ is that the surface be properly prepped. However, it has been my experience you get the best results and ease of use using AJ over Prime or AIO.

What is the difference between Prime and AIO? For the life of me, I can't tell. I know they are basically from the same 'family' -are they essentially the same thing?

Prime and AIO basically perform the same/serve the same function in the detailing process.

In addition, the consensus seems to be that they are both manufactured by the same German chemical company: Carlack.

Apparently, Prime is an upgrade over AIO though, and the general consensus is that it is basically an improved version of AIO that is vastly superior to the post VOC AIO.

So the basic idea is - Prime is the "new and improved" version of AIO licensed to a different company (Werkstatt) for sale in the U.S.

My returns should be here anyday now :dance

I have a huge order (to me) to place once it gets here.

Optimum HC, C and P

Menzerna PG ,IP and FPII
