My buddy builds custom jeeps and sells them. This weekend we are in Virginia and I help him detail his Jeep. He has a rotary and wool pad and 3M finesse it. He says after the wash he applies and takes off the Finesse it with the same pad just works it in till it shines and before he take pictures covers it with a coating of armor all to hide imperfections. No Joke.. So I did half with SSR2 by hand and it came out nice but the PC was needed to really work it in. I topped the whole thing with 1Z Glanz wax and it looked OK and of course before his photos to sell it on ebay he took armor all and made it look better he thought.
 
Using ArmorAll on paint is an old "used-car-salesman" trick.



A slick salesman will use a half bottle of AA all over the car, wheels, tires, engine, interior and, yes, PAINT. To make it shine in the pictures.



A near-criminal practice, indeed. :grinno:
 
It amazes me what people do to their paint. Just last week I watched a guy scrub his car with a broom. I had heard talk of this on the forums, but it is not the same until you see someone abusing their paint like this in person.

Yeah, I watched someone wash the salt off of the side of their car with the window squeegee at the gas station a while ago. Such a mix of emotions I had! Shock, confusion, laughter, anger...

Or once warmer, I can try it on my older car :chuckle:
 
I've seen people spray on old school silicone tyre sprays to make the paint look wet which of course hides the marks

Yep, I used to work at a used car dealership. I had an old caddy that I could not get shiny, with the products I was given, so the owner came in and rubbed TRANNY FLUID ON THE HOOD.....Yes, I said tranny fluid........
 
When I worked a NEW CAR dealership, I was told to wash SUVs/vans with a floor broom that was standing up near the sink, with the bristles on the floor waiting to be used. :faint:

I never did use that brush. I didn't know much about detailing/paint/swirls back then, but I knew enough not to use a big push broom on a car.

My housemate frequently does this to his car (a practically new Lexus GS no less).. it's beyond my help at this point :(

Just wondering, wouldn't this make the paint sticky/attract dust terribly? :think:

Hi! This is my first post.



I also recently observed a big pushbroom being used to clear snow off of cars...at an Infiniti dealership no less. Never buy a car off the lot in winter (in the north anyhow :ca ).

As a rule I only buy cars that still have the protective shipping film on them and tell the dealer that I want to take if off myself ..They think I am nuts, but at least I don't get my brand new car marred up by the dealer's prep detail.. While I had my LR in for service last I watched them preping a brand new black Range Rover supercharged and they were using some pretty dirty bath towels and applying the wax with a pad that looked like it hadn't been cleaned since Regan was in the white house.....
