The Best Factory Paint Jobs

who has the best factory paint jobs? I mean, which cars do you see on the roads that actually make you turn your head and say, "Wow. That lloks good..." I think that the new Mazda's look great from the factory! the new RX-8, Mazda 6, Mazda 3....

What do you think?

I had read that Bentley, Aston Martin and Maserati are among the best in terms of gloss and no orange peel at all!

Bentleys have OP, too. The only Maserati I know is a 70's model and has no OP, but probably not clear coated. I haven't seen a Aston Martin in years,

The Rolls Royce that I'm familiar with has no OP.

I like the paint jobs on the '05 Mazdas, but I'm biased. I think they're great without going really high end.

I wish I had a scanner because there is a picture in the Maserati Quattroporte brochure, one of the very first pages, a picture of the C pillar, with worse OP than our Honda minivan! I was very surprised. It just popped out.

Anything from Europe; Italy and Germany especially, not so much Britian. Nothing compares to the paint on Audi's and VW's for regular everyday cars - look at the silver or white used on german cars and then on GM/Ford/Honda and the difference is undoubtedly clear. Funny this come up cause me and a few buddies were arguing about this at the bar Thurs. night after we were prepping a car for the import show next weekend.

I have a mazda3 orange and the paint look really deep, especially for a low end car. With a good wax job it almost look like a pool :p .

The durability is an other thing though. you have to watch yourself, especially under the trunk. I scratched my paint to the plastic with a cardboard box.

But of course, there is better paint if you look to some very high end car mention before.

I dunno, I've owned maybe a dozen silver Porsche/Audis and none of them had very good paintjobs. The OP on our A8 and S8 is just awful, and the paint has other issues too. Very disappointing for what they cost, but then we're not buying them for the paint.

The silver paint on our Mazda MPV isn't *bad* by any means, especially for something so inexpensive, but it has OP too and it's rather thin.

As for the Bentleys (yeah, some of us really do care about them ;) ), it seems that the newer ones aren't being painted to the same high standard as the older, Rolls Royce-era models :( Must be the new high-tech/robotic paint systems...the kind that do so badly on our Audis.

Strange, My neighbor has an Arctic White Porshce which is an amazing paint job and his daughter has a silver A4 cabrio which is also a quality job. I posted pics of an 04 S4 in the charcoal color and there is no OP at all. I will also be posting some pics of the silver Jetta my little brother just bought and the paint on that is immaculate for being 4 years old. Maybe this is a more recent revelation in the German piant quality of VWs and Audis but the ones from the past 5 years are some high quality paint for regular cars . . .

I only see this car once a month but my client sees it everyday as it is his daily driver....

It is his second Maserati and by default the second Maserati I have detailed. :D Both cars had absolutely, positively ZERO orange peel. Even though they are high priced exotics they are still "production line" cars and yet have paint jobs that would rival some custom paint work. The black '02 he had previous to this '05 silver one was truly like looking in a mirror when it was detailed...

Yeah, my Audi has OP, nothing incredbily bad or anything like that but I hate to look at side of the car from an angle and see it :(

Mazda? Are you guys nuts?

yeah they have some very nice colors i'm a fan of strato blue and the red with the gold metalflake.

however, the OP is HORRIBLE.

I used to sell these things and i saw them day in and out under florescent lighting and it's really, really, bad. I love the cars i'm just not impressed with the paint qaulity. Scion has some very nice paint on the market. I'd say VW but the new jetta is so ugly i'm not going to gratify them.

Maybe I shouldn't be lumping Porsches in with Audis. Different factories could explain a lot, including why some Audi models look so much better/worse than others. And simple "production variation" might explain a lot too.

The A8/S8 paint quality really surprises me...those are sorta at the upper range for "regular cars" and if anything their paintjobs are *worse* than those of less expensive models. Best I ever had OP-wise was a '95.5 S6 wagon. That one had a great paintjob but I can't imagine why it was better than our '94 and '96 models.

The last time I was at Stoddard their new Audis looked OK, *until* I played around with the illumination- then they din't look so great. But I guess if you have to experiment with the lighting it can't be all that bad.

I rented a black Mazda 6 for a month and the OP was terrible. Lexus does a pretty good job with their paint.
