Tech Wax 2.0?

I like this product, but heed McGuire's own warning: Do not apply it over wax because it does have slight cleaning properties.

Everything I have read over at MOL stated that any cleaning properties it had were very minimal and were also very dependent on how you applied it (i.e. with polishing pad).

I wouldn't suggest applying it over a wax for longevity's sake, as generally a sealant needs to go on the paint, not over a wax or glaze. Not saying you can't do it that way, but that's the general consensus.

Maybe we should back up and take another run at this.

1. You have a vehicle to do soon and you don't have a lot of time to order/find products.

2. It probably will need at least some type of paint cleaner or a cleaner/wax used for the initial clean up.

3. You don't have a machine that will work good with a true paint cleaner/polish so You just as well plan on dong it by hand.

4. You have already purchased the NXT 2.0 so the logical product to use for your first step would be Meguiar's Color-X. It will work good by hand. In fact, you might be satisfied with the look after just the Color-X.
If you do decide to follow it up with the NXT 2.0, it's a great combination.

5. If you can't find the Color-X, you can also get good results cleaning/prepping the paint with Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner. It might be a little easier to find than the Color-X.

Thanks Charles!

Heres the write-up so far:
1. Wash
2. Color-X
3. Tech Wax
4. Touch-ups

Any objections? I want to try some polishing but I dont have a polisher:wall. Im kind of new to the extreme detailing:D

If you need to remove swirls try the polisher with the co;orX.

I never heard of that being done before but I think it may work. It will be faster than doing it by hand

I have no objections to anything someone does to their car. Just my own. :)
Given what you have to work with, it should do a more than adequate job.
Have at it.
I do kind of wonder what touch-ups are, though.

Where did you read a Meguiar's warning like that?
Could you post a link?

Charles, I can't get the link to copy/paste. Here's the quote.

"If you prefer the appearance of a wax (said to be a glossier, wetter, richer appeal) but like the durability of a sealant, you can layer a wax over a paint sealant. Pinnacle Souveran™ or Signature Series II will give you most outstanding results over Tech Wax 2.0. Meguiar’s does not recommend layering Tech Wax 2.0 over another sealant or wax. It has slight cleaning properties, but one coat is all you need to achieve dramatic results."

It isn't for me to question a vendors sales information, but I wonder where they got that information.
Everything I read from Meguiar's themselves talks about NXT 2.0 not having cleaning properties.

Be that as it may, other than the newer WOWA sealants, applying a sealant over a wax is said to have a negative effect on the sealants durability.
I think that would be more of a reason to not apply it over a wax than any possible cleaning action.
I have never applied NXT 2.0 over a wax so I really don't have any first hand information. (That translates to "I don't really know what I'm talking about".)

Yeah, I found it earlier, but..... The information is from AG, not Meguiar's. :)
Like I said before, it's not for me to question their information, but it seems to contradict the info from Meguiar's.
Here again, moot point since their is no reason to use a sealant, NXT 2.0, over a wax in the first place.

Smokin Mark:
My apologies.

My post asking where you got that information was a little more confrontational than it needed to be.
I didn't realize it until I read it again just now.
It was not intended to be that way.
I realize that everyone is just trying to help by posting whatever information is available. It's getting so it's difficult to figure out who to take as being correct.
The vendors and manufacturers are as bad as the politicians. :D

My apologies in advance to the vendors and manufacturers. Comparing them to politicians was very poor manners. :surrender

I didn't see anything confrontational in your post Charles, just honest communication. Regardless it was very curious of you to consider me. Maybe there still are people out there with old fashioned manners.

As for longevity, I winter-prepped my car back in October topping it off with a coat of NXT 2.0. Since then NOTHING was done until Mar 30, when I gave it a good wash & claying. There was no beading to speak of, and the finish wasn't exactly 'baby-bottom" smooth, but this is how it looked:

anyone have problems of getting dust build up after a few days from using nxt ?

and both cars ive used this on were kept outside, but rediculously covered in dust and is a pain to wipe off ...

i am impressed with the shine of 2.0 but the dust collecting is kinda xxxxty ??

or is this typically normal of a fully detailed polished and protected paint after say 36 to 48 hours of sitting outside over nite and daytime ???

I run into the same thing with NXT and DG, so I assumed it was normal. Actually with the Pollen this time of year it is almost within minutes and not hours that it collects a film of dust/pollen.

I like it, looks great, lasts, priced right, I apply by hand with Meg yellow foam applicator nice and thin, give it 30-45 min to haze, swipe your finger on the paint if the wax wipes right off with no smearing it is ready to remove. I use to use it a lot but now I find myself reaching for FK 1000p a lot

i like NXT but if you leave your vehicle outdoors im sure the protection levels diminish alot faster than a garaged vehicle with the same polishing and protection process.

but nxt is definately worth the money that is for sure !

That is true with most any wax/sealant.
