Tape Edges?

Another thing to do when buffing near edges and corners is to slow down the RPM (rotary) and *very* slightly tilt the pad as to take some of the down force off of the edge. That will slow down the heat build up on the thinner paint. Also, it will help keep the rotating pad from grabbing an uneven edge from one panel to another.

Is taping still required when using a mild product like Ultrafina with a rotary?

To an extent, pad and polish is irrelevant in this discussion because it's much more likely to burn the paint off using the rotary simply due to its nature of rotating at a high speed, as opposed to taking off too much paint at edges with an aggressive pad/polish.

I say to an extent because obviously some pads will heat up quicker, making it easier to burn paint and some polishes are very aggressive and can take off paint very quickly, especially at the edges, but for the sake of the discussion, I think those are only minor variables compared to any pad and any polish used on the rotary for too long or at the wrong angle on the edge.
