Taking Dust off... California Duster?

I wouldn't think the dusters would work well to remove polishing dust. The dust produced from polishes is usually too sticky to be removed with a single wipe of a duster.

California Duster..:bow :bow :bow

Today I was doing some work in my garage. I left the doors open to let in the light. It let in the pollen. :sosad The car was FULL of pollen! I dusted it off with the CCD and put one of the doors down halfway. Still more pollen. Dusted it off again and put one door down. 2 hours later the pollen was back. :angry Once again I used the CCD and closed both doors.

Gotta love the duster! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

I gently *wisk* the duster over the paint back and forth. I barely let it touch the paint. It's almost like I'm flicking it over the surface of the car. I make sure to shake the duster out periodically.

When it gets filthy I tend to buy a new one. I use the old ones for cleaning the wheels.

So much pollen the other day that I had to keep using the CCD on each panel before applying s100 after my wash.

The OXO duster seems to be more plush / more fibers than the CCD. Also the OXO has a rubber ergonomic grip they are famous for. I like my OXO a lot.

I wash and wax my Black car yesterday... and what do you know, it's covered in dust today.

When i goto car shows (outdoors) and see black cars, i usually see the "Califorina Duster" in peoples touch-up buckets.

What do you all sugguest to keep the dust off of her?

Is the California Duster the best thing to use? and if not, Why?

Thanks all!

I've been using the CCD for more years than I can remember and have always been very pleased at the job they do at removing dust and dry pollen. I just noticed that Walmart now has CCD's in gray/multi color fiber with different colored handles. I'm tempted to pick up one and see if it is as good as the red fiber ones. Might have to do a comparision test and post it for you folks.:D

I have four CCD's - two small, two large. Very nice tools.

Then, I tried the OXO dusters - one large, one small. The OXO's are much better. Threads are smaller diameter and longer, it seems to be plusher. The handles are rubber coated and much easier to hold. Overall, a MUCH better product.

Try a CCD if you want, but if you start using an OXO, you'll STOP using your CCD.

Regards,

Dan.

I've been using the CCD ever since they've been out and I recently ordered an OXO. As you can probably tell already, the OXO IS better than the CCD. I can pretty much guarantee it. Their threads seem to be longer and thinner yet more plush than the CCD. I'm not saying a CCD isn't that great, I'm just saying the OXO is hands-down better.

I just picked up the Oxo duster and I like it better than the CCD. I like the rubber handle and the fibers seem to be more plush. :xyxthumbs

I just picked a large OXO and gave it a try. My car was lightly dusty and I gave it a few light passes only to see scratches. I tested a vertical area that had no scratches and after a couple of passes (skimmed the surface), I noticed scratches.

Everyone else is praising this product, so what am I doing wrong?

i assume your on black paint in order to see these scratches?

and are you shaking the OXO out after each pass?

Are you sure they aren't just streaks from the wax? My OXO did that when I first used it, and still does it on hot surfaces.

Hi integraoligist & White95Max,

My car is white and I had a light source directly above the spot I was dusting. On the vertical section, I did about 3 swips. It was a very small area, about 4"wide and the length of the OXO. I did not shake it on each swipe as I thought the area was small enough compared to the OXO. I checked the area prior and it was lightly dusty and no sign of dirt or grit. Although, I just got glasses! doh!

I thought it was traces of wax at first, but I rubbed the "scratches" with my finger. Lightly at first, then added more pressure. The scratch did not change in anyway. I didn't have any product with me to remove it at that time, but I did a wash tonight and I'll check in the morning.

I really hope it is wax from the OXO, as I would like to use it daily in hope to wash less often. I'll post my finding tomorrow.

Thanks for your info!

Aloha
