While SG is water-soluble, being acrylic I cannot (from a chemistry POV) see where there would be any chemical reaction of the two caused by doing so. Unless I have missed something, such a dilution should just create a colloidal suspension and therefore at least help to keep one (a first time user such as myself, that is) from putting it on too heavily.
That said....I tried this just yesterday. I used the above-specified 1:3 mix in a fine mist spray-bottle to mist a MF pad and then applied by hand. After applying over the entire car (large bright silver four-door), I let it all sit probably an additional ten or fifteen minutes while I gathered up and put away the washing supplies.
Then I went at it with my PC fitted with a MF bonnet over a green DAS pad. Everything came off so easy that I wonder if there isn't some affect of a water mix after all. By my calculations, the entire job used something in the neighbourhood of between one and two ounces of SG. Yet, it all came off easier than a whole can of Souveran.
This morning there was a notable increase in the gloss of the paint, so something was deposited and hung around. Yet I cannot believe that, with all of the complaints and warnings about trouble with removing SG, that this was so easy.
Planning a second layer of SG the middle of next week. Haven't decided to do it traditonally.....or keep going with this suspension.
