Some thoughts on Megs versus Lake Country pads

@Alfisti ... oh baby if I can only get my 2005 Jag looking as good as that !

My car has the 2005 reissue of the same midnight blue.

Unfortunately on my car, any chrome beyond the hood ornament is nothing more than chrome-looking plastic.

I was thinking about trying LC 6.5" Flat Orange pad with DACP and SSR2.5 Does anyone know where I could buy LC 6.5" Flat pads? I need a pad with a little more bite for swirl removal.

I spoke with Autogeek today, Ive told Jason you will be referring product info to him and I will work with him on helping everyone. Thanks and Happy Holidays

I'm currently using LCVC 7.5" pads with my PC because they are all that I have. Since I'm fairly new to polishing, I'm just wondering if people opinions have changed on these since they've been out for awhile now. If they are not optimum for me, I'll get something differant. I'm ignorant of other pads on the PC because I haven't tried them.

For correction, smaller pads work a *LOT* better than the 7.5 ones. I don't mind the large pads for glaze/LSP application, but no way can I do an marring removal/etc. with the bigger pads. The PC just bogs down too readily. IMO, even an aggressive application of a paint cleaner will go better with smaller pads.

Megs pads are decent but for $30.00 + CDN they are a total rip off. I can get a LC pad for $13.00 CDN and they are excellent pads.

Wow. Sucks for you, eh? Why so high in Canada? I bought 3 Meguiars pads the other day from my distributor for around $32 with tax.

Actually Scott it sucks for Megs because I just purchase another brand that is just as good if not better. Megs loss not mine.

Go to Megs On line and see the threads in the customer feed back forum. You will be surprised at all the responses from Megs customers all over the world. Read the most recent ones I was involved in. If you live out side of the USA and purchase Megs products get out the Vaseline and be prepared to bend over and grab your ankles because you know where you will be taking it big time.

Look what I have written under my user name here on Autopia. It's there for good reason. Megs:down

Is this high price due to Megs or the Canadian government?

Someone quoted that since there is alot less surface area that is actually in contact with paint on the 7.5" VC pads, that they are much like using smaller pads anyway. I'm just trying to verify before I spend another $60 on a smaller plate and pads.

It's due to Megs. None of the other manufacturers of detailing products mark their prices up like Megs. Let me give you some examples. NXT Paste Wax $37.00 CDN, NXT Glass Cleaner $13.99 CDN, Buffing Pads $30.00. 16 Oz bottle of Color X $19.00. It's insane.

I live 40 minutes from the American border and I'm always going over and buying products. Mothers, 3M, 303, Eagle One, are not worth buying in the US because they are priced so close to the Canadian prices I pay here. Not so with Megs. The Canadian prices are marked up by anywhere from 100-300%. It's even worse in other countries.

I got into it with Megs over on Megs on line and they gave the same BS excuses they always give about pricing. I shot down every one of their reasons and they locked the thread. Other than currency differences there is no excuse for the pricing. And our currency is worth about 80 cents for every US dollar so how do you justify a 100- 300% mark up? Megs ever here of NAFTA? That means no import tariffs. It's a joke. You guys want a laugh check this site out www.meguiarscanada.com Take a look around.

I drew a picture of the LC Curved Edge Variable Contact (VC) Pad. I have no Idea if it is correct, But this is the way I understand it. This is basicly why I prefer flat pads. But I'm just starting out with detailing and still learning lots. Let me know if you think otherwise or if you agree?

Good post ! I like the LC pads best, as stated in previous posts, LC offers more choices of cutting levels as well as other features .:xyxthumbs

I'm using a rotary, but I like the LC's a lot better than Meg's.

They are built better, have the variable contact, which I love, leave a flawless finish, and last forever!
