Small specks on Glass?

I notice it all the time when the sun is low in the sky (ie. evening) and shining right on the glass and I see little specks all over. I used invisible glass and a mf to clean it, but it's still there. What is it?

Thanks.

Rocks chips. They look like tiny white dots almost the size of a pin tip..nothing you can do about them.

~One mans opinion / observations~

You can remove these 'gravel chips' by hand although you'll get the best results with a buffer

Polishing Glass Surfaces (See note 1)-

·Use detailers clay (Magic Clay®) and lubricant solution (WooliteTM / Water 5:1) onto the glass surface

·Apply a quarter size amount of Autoglym Car Glass Polish™ to a dry cutting / polishing foam pad (LC Orange or White) attached to a Porter Cable random orbital buffer set at speed # 4.

·Apply to half of the windshield, polishing first in an up and down motion then in a left-to-right motion and then repeat on the other side, proceed to other glass surfaces.

·Go over the glass several times in each direction, glass will polish virtually residue free.

·Wipe off any residue, and polish with a clean dry 100% cotton Microfiber cloth.

·Inspect glass for clarity and smoothness. Repeat if necessary.

Note:

1.Do not use abrasive cleaner; glass polish on after market-tinted glass or you will probably scratch the surface.

2.The only constant is; always use the least aggressive product first, evaluate the surface, then only if necessary, ‘step-up’ to more abrasive products.

3.For deeply etched water spots' or pits (caused by sand or road stones) in the glass surface, do not attempt to polish them out, consult an automotive glass vendor as glass used on later model cars is soft and thin (this may vary by manufacturer) due to weight / cost savings by vehicle manufactures and polishing could cause glass to crack.

4.Some windshields and mirrors have a tinted plastic coating or a blue tint that will scratch or be damaged, only polish or use synthetic wool on uncoated glass.

~Hope this helps~

Well here is the funny part, it's on the side glass too and my Audi TT only has 3800 miles total. I think it might be microfiber or waffleweave lint, maybe? I only wash MF with MF and nothing else.

Yeah, I was just getting these too( look like hairs) so I followed up with a Norwex glass mf from Detailers Paradise, does a nice job of removing the lint and final polishing the glass

I have to agree with Mazz about them being stone chips, but if you have a lot and they are on the side windows too, and you only have 3800 miles...I dunno. Is it polishing splatter?

Audi windshields, and I suppose side glass too, are notoriously soft :( Blame the German government again, first for bringing us the awful dark brake dust and then soft Audi windshields. The windshields are soft for safety to not leave behind as sharp pieces upon impact in a car crash.

My clear seems incredibly chip resistant but using multiple polishes to remove micromarring visible under halogens for hours can be frustrating

If it makes you feel any better, I have the same problem with my BMW. It drives me NUTS! I am going to start with claying the window (hopefully this weekend) and see what happens.

Bumping up this old thread for some more input. What I quoted is exactly what I'm experiencing on my side windows. In the morning when the sun is low and just hiddened by the A or B pillar all these little specks show up. When the sun is in any other location the glass looks crystal clear. It almost looks like clear coat overspray, but the car is fairly new (12k mi) and has never been near a paint booth. I've tried a paint cleaner/swirl remover and Stone's IG multiple times. Could the specks be inside the glass? Maybe tiny air bubbles when the glass was formed? The windows are free of water spots and are very smooth to the touch. FWIW, this is on an Audi A3. No tint. Has anyone experienced this? I'll try to get some pictures, but being that I'm new I won't be able to post them for a bit.

Thanks
