shopping at Pepboys

Hello everyone, this is my second post :)



I entered my newly acquired Super Red 1993 Toyota MR2 into my company's car show and somehow won the modern/late model category by popular vote. The prize was a $150 Pepboys gift certificate.



My problem is I can't figure out what to buy at Pepboys that's worth buying?



Can you suggest somethings I can get there? If nothing there is worthy in the category, can you tell me what would you use? Here's the categories that I need stuff in:



hand applicator

good quality MF buffing towel

wheel brush(?)

interior brush

wheel protectant

what do you use to protect rubber hoses in the engine bay?

engine bay cleaner?

glass cleaner/polish



remember they must be available at Pepboys :)

Can't help you with most of this stuff except for:



Wheel protectant (I assume you mean tire shine)--go for Mothers FX Tire Shine

Glass cleaner--Meg's NXT Glass Cleaner
 
stoners glass cleaner, nxt wax, blue magic metal polish, yellow megs applicator pads, ,creeper stool, garden hose, miscellaneous brushes, buckets, air fresheners, junk microfiber towels for the dirty stuff, megs plastiX plastic cleaner, mothers FX line, .....theres lots of stuff that is pretty good if not looking to buy in bulk....

Ceramic brake pads. I got mine there a few years ago. They held up well and dramatically reduced dusting on the wheels.

would you rather use one product for everything or specialized products?



1. leather - Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer(everything) vs. Turtle Wax Platinum, Mothers or Gold Class leather conditioner.



2. Interior vinyl, plastic, rubber - Quik Interior Detailer(everything) vs. not sure what brand detailer they have for vinyl, rubber, plastic.



3. interior glass - Quik Interior Detailer vs. Rain-X anti-fog class cleaner



4. exterior glass - I plan to get AIO online for sealant vs. Stoners Invisible glass or NXT glass cleaner



5. exterior molding and engine bay rubber hoses - Mothers FX Tire Shine or specialized molding conditioner?



6. wheels - regular car wash or some wheel cleaner? Also are the Black Magic brushes okay?
 
1 & 2. Odds are you have coated leather, so might as well go with one product for leather and vinyl, etc.



3. First off, I've read enough here about the Rain-X anti-fog that I'd stay away from it. On the inside of the glass I usually just use whatever cleaner I use on the outside, carefully so as not to get any on the interior surfaces. Apply it to the cloth, then wipe on the glass.



4. I've tried Stoners, but lately I've been using NXT glass cleaner and I'm happy with it. If I'm going over the car with 425 a lot of the time I just use it on the glass instead.



5. I have a few different tire products I use, still searching for "the one". What I've tried isn't bad; Mother's Durations, Vroom tire spray, Turtle Wax Tire Wax, Mequiar's Hot Tires. The Vroom stuff works pretty well and I like the Durations, but it's discontinued now. I also like what I've read about the stuff from Griot's, do a search here on that.



6. I have chrome wheels, so I'm probably not up against the same challenges as you. Won't try to spout any ideas here.
 
1. leather - Turtle Wax regular Leather Cleaner/Conditioner (although Platinum is probably good too)



2. Interior vinyl, plastic, rubber - Quik Interior Detailer(everything)



3. interior glass - Meg's NXT or Stoner Invisible Glass (either)



4. exterior glass - Stoners Invisible glass or NXT glass cleaner (either)



5. exterior molding and engine bay rubber hoses - if you're buying online w/AIO, Chemical Guys Liquid Extreme Shine or Poorboy's Trim restorer. If in store...good luck...



6. wheels - Eagle One All Wheel Cleaner, Meg's Spoke Brush, and Meg's Wheel Face brush (if you can find them)
 
okay, I just bought whole bunch of stuff from PepBoys. They had a special on Mother's FX tire shine and it was sold out. :( I was wondering, can I use the tire dressing on body moldings and rubber hoses in the engine bay? I mainly want lasting protection so I don't ever have to change those rubber hoses. Do you think a specialized product suits the purpose better?
 
Some tire shines might work, but when I've tried FX on trim it streaked in the rain and didn't last long. It would probably be okay, but the dressings found online (Chemical Guys Liquid Extreme Shine, CG "gel", Poorboy's Trim Restorer) are much better.
 
I just realized that Lexol leather cleaner, Lexol leather condition and Lexol Vinylex are good products available at Pepboys. this will mean I only have to buy ONR and Zaino online. :heelclick
 
congrats! all the pepboys here in columbus are located in the ghetto- stores are dirty and old! i think they sell electric scooters!?

Interesting... the pepboys I go to has the biggest detailing selection I've seen in any store. They carry the whole Meguiars professional line, 3M compounds, Meguiars gold class MF towels, applicators, etc. I'd definately spend $150 at Pep Boys and then some :drool:
