I just started getting into detailing a few months ago and want to start using machine polishing. I have a rotary that I used for polishing granite and marble, and plan to use that to fix some deeper scratches on the car I recently bought. However, from reading some threads it seems that having a PC for finishing/everyday use would be benificial. I have a bunch of backing plates already, 3 3/4", 4 1/2", 4 3/4", 5", 6 1/2", 7", but they're mostly sanding backup plates, and only a couple are hook and loop.
Can I use the sanding plates, or do you have to use the hook and loop? If I have to buy new backing plates what sizes should I get, what size pads, and will they be compatible with a rotary and PC?
Also, one hook and loop plate I have doesn't have a velcro front, is the velcro necessary or will I'll be ok?
