Rasky's Auto Detailing: Black 2009 Chevy 2500HD "BMFT"

I called the humane society also. They are about 20-25 miles away, and said they did not have the time or resources to send someone everytime a stray cat is loose. I explained that this was not a stray, but a neighbors cat and they said..."well we cant do anything anyway". They also said that only 10% of the cats brought in are adopted...the rest...well you know.

I work 48 hours straight (firefighter) and the off for 24, then do it all again. During the day I am helping a friend build a house most every off day. I am not going to spend the money and time to trap a cat and then drive half an hour each way to drop them off (where mind you they will die in 7 days anyway).

I am an animal lover...just dogs though. I too would be extremely upset if someone shot my dog. However I am a responsible pet owner and wouldnt allow him to run loose.

As for punishing the cats...I tried numerous times to get them from doing it. Water, yelling, chasing, $10 worth of cayan pepper scattered around my truck and even on it (that DOESNT WORK!!) And nothing worked. It's not like I just went out the first time and started shooting.

Anyway...it evidently worked or they have gotten smarter. I havent seen them in about a week.

Anyway...y'all got to vent and flame, just had to tell my other 2 cents.

After reading through several of the first page posts, it's pretty clear that you either put the car in the garage at night or if you don't have a garage, then buy a cover for your car.

My next door neighbor has a cat that likes the heat of the engine hood in the fall and on dry winter days. However, it leaves very deep long scratches on the surface.

I don't mince words, I told them I like the cat, but if it happens again, that the cat will be killed. My car, my driveway, my choice on how to handle it.

I've caught one cat in the garage and that cat was removed by the skin on it's neck and tossed over the backyard fence. This did not hurt the cat, but sure did send a strong message. Now I see that same cat and it does not come close to my yard.

Please people - be kind to animals...I'm sure if you think really hard you can deter a cat or any other animal without inflicting pain or injury or killing it....I remember when I was a kid my Dad griping about a mockingbird that would perch on his co-workers cars and look at its reflection in the side-view mirror - they tried to scare it away but it kept coming back and leaving a mess on the car - instead of just covering the mirror some sicko brought a gun to the office and shot and killed it - was that the only answer?

jazzyjack hit the nail on the head. My car, my driveway...MY decision. Animal cruelty is against the law...but I am not being cruel...one shot one kill.

ADAMM...matter of fact we did get one of the rediculous call one time. I told the lady "have you ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree?" She said no, but you are not leaving till you get my cat out. I was not gonna risk my guys safety by putting them on a ground ladder to a tree to get an unwilling cat, so we proceeded to "wash" him out. Surprising what 250 gallons per minute at 110 psi will do.

BTW...he got down...:D

Anyway...I apologize if I have offended anyone particularly. I didnt mean to.

Also hope that PITA or any of those other tree hugging associations aren't upset...

first of all, it's PETA - not PITA, and no, I am not a member...yes, your comments about killing cats with your pellet gun did offend me - not that I believe you care - I am not condoning your neighbor's disregard for your property or irresponsibility concerning her pets - but 2 wrongs don't make a right...I do not let my cat outdoors, but if I did and someone brought it to my attention that he had caused some damage to their vehicle, I would take steps to see that it didn't happen again and also pay for repairing the damages - but if some @$$hole cold-bloodedly killed my pet he/she would have not only me to contend with but my 280 lb. husband and the police as well.

You know folks...

Cats are darn smart, have you ever seen a dog sit on the warm hood of a car? I have yet to :)

Boils down to this, get a cover, or clean the garage and park inside, or move to a place where there are no cats (good luck)

I am also the owner of a 15 year old black Siamese and she only goes outside on the deck during the summer months. I could never bring myself to killing a cat even for a scratch on my new Bimmer. The cat is not the one parking the car :) I am!

15 year old siamese? I have a 19 yo as-yet-undetermined and if it ever leaned against the car I would have to get the engine degreaser out! I thought that this summer would do him in, as he loves being outside during the day. But, no. He lives. For those of you who don't own a 19 year old cat, they smell. And your friends make fun of them. "What's up with your freakin' cat, dude? Did he get, uh, something on him?" You answer is always the same. Plead ignorant. "I don't even have a cat!" Just now, as I was typing this, the cat walked into my computer room. I smelled him before I heard him. Really.

However, if he jumped on the car or somehow annoyed me...

I would just be amazed that he was able to jump on a car at all.

SCOOBY14B, instead of pullin' a line off the engine, the deck gun also works well!

All I know is that if I found a cat scratching the finish of my car after all of the time and effort I put into it, I would be VERY VERY upset.

Hey, did you know that cat hair puts MF towels to shame.

Don't throw them(dead cats) away, recycle them. Made in the USA rules.

Are you taking notes YoSteve?

Very funny thread here. My favorite line of all, "Have you ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree before?' Hehe! I kind of have mixed feelings on this topic. For one, I hate cats. Dogs are a man's best friend. But after all the effort that some of these guys have gone through, it seems almost "ok" to just shoot these cats with pellet guns. Personally, I wouldn't. But I can kind of understand where they're coming from if indeed 90 percent of the cats sent to the Animal Humane Society are put to death anyway. Tough call.

I say just urinate around your car and mark your territory. :D Or place bear traps on your hood and put cat nip in the middle but I think marking your territory is more humane.

I am, of course, kidding. :D

Scooby snacks14b though. I'm not fond of cats and also work Crash Rescue on the weekends so I know how he feels. Cats are

like women (No offense to Karen!) and they are independent and

do whatever they like, and hanging on a warm car is what they want to do. Reminds me of a time in Cali when my buddy went out to his 300ZX and started and engine and heard a god-awful

cat screech. Turns out a cat had gotten up in the engine compartment from underneath the car to get warm and had an unfortunate experience. My buddy was washing cat kibble out of the engine for weeks! The bottom line is that the owners are responsible so if they don't take care of their responsibilities then

Scooby should not be held responsible for the outcome. Sorry, but when I pay over 30K for a car (payed for with my blood, sweat and tears) and an owner is inconsiderate enough to let the

damn thing run all around town damaging cars, obviously that owner does not care about the feline. If cats did not look so vindictive and mean when laying on a car then maybe people would not be so angry, but a cat will lay there looking at you as if to say, "Screw you, I'm a cat and don't care about lying here because I'm faster than you!" After that, it's time for the hardware and scope!!!! Aaack!! :)

another post from a jake (firefighter)....

I used to have a cat (my own) that would climb onto the hood of my car in the winter. One day I borrowed a 2.5 gallon pressurized water fire extinguisher from the firehouse. I caught "Dusty" in the act of climbing onto the car when I let him have a short burst...cats are intelligent, have an excellent memory and from the fear of getting a soaking, he never did that again!

Shooting cats on your car/truck is not only cruel and inhumane...you might end up shooting your own truck! Explain that to the insurance company!

Scooby did what he had to do. There was no simple solution to the problem. He tried everything and nothing could be done. I think his hard earn money is worth more than a cat that the humane society was going to kill as soon as he dropped it off. I wonder if he went next door and spray painted the neighbors house if anything would happen. I am sure the police would be there in five minutes arresting him.

Technically, I like both cats and dogs but would have a major fit if I saw one climbing on the Maxima. Instead of popping the cats with a pellet gun (or actual 9mm), I would prefer a more humane way of dealing with the situation. That's what my Super Soaker is for. :D

If the police will not do anything or the humane society will not come out, how long should he put up with this? If he attempts to do anything to the owner he will be thrown in jail immediately. If he sued the neighbor he probably would not get nearly enough money to cover the damage. I bet these same people who are against the cat messing up the car would have no problem shooting a rat doing the same thing.

You guys need some sensitivity training! LOL!!

Sorry, but I value life more than any manmade replaceable machine. Its a pity some of you dont feel the same way. In any case, how about trying this instead??

If you feel like you need to shoot the cat, why not use a paintball gun or something of that nature so you hurt the cat enough to know it needs to back off, but you don't kill it or permanently mame it. Paint from paintball guns is water soluble and rinses off very easily.

Good luck.

Would you shoot the cat if it mauled your little baby????It did not kill your baby so you must be sensitive to the cat, and not hurt it in any way. It has feelings just like humans.
