QD that does not leave any wax behind?

I would recommend what everyone else is saying...FI #34.

As a second choice I would recommend Zaino's Z-6.

It does have some UV protection, some dust repellant, some gloss enhancers, maybe some polymers, maybe some alcohol. But it don't have oils, silicone, wax, acrylic in it.

I actually talked to sal today and he said to wait a week, then just apply zaino normally. Z-5pro, then Z-2. He says the paint can still breathe with zaino on it.

I usually trust Sal, but this sounds like a bad idea to me.

FK1 claims the same thing about 2180, that is allows outgassing while offering some protection. I've also read the opinion here that perhaps other sealants are safe for new paint, but companies don't want to take the chance a problem would later be blamed on them. FWIW, I believe the safest course is to stick to something like #5 glaze for a few months, but this past winter after I had body work done I used 2180 within a couple of weeks when I knew there was a winter storm headed my way and my car would be subjected to all the lovely salt and other junk that comes with daily driving in the winter.

Anyone who wants to learn more should read this thread.

BTW back on the subject of QDs, did I remember to mention #34?

When you are dealing with new paint, and the cost that it takes to get a good paint job, I am not taking someones word for it that is trying to sell me products....It is worth waiting a few months. Is Sal or anyone else going to repaint my vehicle if it does not work? Of course not.

If your Body Shop is standing behind their work, follow their instructions.

I have applied Z2/5 over fresh "activated" paint (3 day old) with no problem on "My" vehicle. My Body shop "stated" that it was okay because of the catalzyed paint used.

Follow your shops instructions.

I agree with you, for the most part. Sal does have extensive experience in the auto paint industry so he's not speaking out of ignorance. When I asked FK1 how 2180 could permit outgassing, they came back with an explaination that *sounds* pretty good. Still, when I used it I waited about 3 weeks, then made the decision that I was better off putting some protection on the paint rather than subject new paint to everything that comes with a major winter storm than to leave it bare. In the past I've also had the lovely experience of a bird bomb landing on fresh paint and within an hour or two causing marring that would not come out without compromising or going through the clear. Glaze doesn't have enough durability to offer protection in those circumstances, especially when it's cold enough I can't get out there to constantly reapply it. Finally, let me just state that I DO support waiting a few months before using an LSP. I was just caught in a bind and had to make a decision. From the way my paint behaves now I don't believe it hurt but I'm not advocating this for anyone else.

No question, Sal would be an expert in the situation. But in the end, we have to trust our own judgement. Sal is not going to refund the paint job money. When I got my car painted (previous car) I just did not drive it for a few months. Or I would cover it except when driving. But a lot of people dont have that option. I would risk a bird bomb before I would use products on it. Just my opinion though.

So if I used souveran paste and didnt want to alter the look I can use 34 after washes to bring back the pop without altering the look?

In my opinion "not really". I would think something like PS would benefit from a QD (i.e. Crystal Mist) which would add back the beautifying oils that make a carnuaba "POP" when first applied. At least that was my preference. :nixweiss

Meg 34 Final Inspection is also a great "neutral" claying lube.:up

I've heard good things about Sonus' Carnauba Spritz for this purpose, but haven't tried it myself yet. I think you could also make up a decent QD from ONR for this purpose, especially since you can change the solution to your taste.
