sorry for the noob thread. but i'm interested in getting a PC, and have found a 7336 for a little bit cheaper then the 24. Few questions:

Do they take the same backing plates and pads?

I'm wanting to get these: Sonus DAS Pad Kit

will those pads fit the 7336?

Any major differences that should make me get the new 7424?

thanks for the help. I've been searching but havent found differences between the two PC's.

I think the only difference is the counterwieght. I could be totally wrong though. But I remember reading that they are essentially the same model.

try Autogeek.net for info on the PC

They're the same thing. The 7336 comes with a larger counterweight, which is actually slightly better for use with foam pads anyhow.

This would be entirely correct. :D

All the responders that said they're the same unit are correct.

They handle the same pads, same everything except the counterweights and a few companies sell the other counterweight. Usually 3 or 4 bucks but most never swap out the counterweight anyway.

All the backing plates for the PC fit both models and the Edge company makes a PC adapter if you want to use the Edge 2000 pads, and the Edge adapter fits both models.

Get whichever one is cheaper or if you can wait a little, wait until DavidB comes out with the SuperPC (my name, not his) which has quite a few advantages over both the 7424 and the 7336.

The thread where it got a little publicity was something like 'DavidB I'm calling you out' and is within 1.5 weeks old.

So here's something that was pointed out to me today on my350z.com. If you go directly to the porter cable website, the motor specs on the 7424 and 7336sp are different, the 7424 has a 3.7amp motor while the 7336sp has a 4.0amp motor, an 8.1% increase in power. Product Category Overview

Anyone want to comment on this? Its been pretty widely accepted that they were the same except for the counterweight, but this info directly contradicts this

I got my 7336sp around December last year and it says on the box and unit that its 3.7 amps, so either there been a change since then or its a typo.

Thats good to know, I'll check mine when I get home!

I would venture to say that it's just a typo, but things do change. Up to now, it has been common knowledge that the only difference between the two was the counterweight and nothing else.

Please post back and let us know.
