Being new to this stuff, I just bought myself a nice PC :spot Ive been trying to research on what pads to get but there seems to be a mixture of responses. I have heard both good and bad things about Sonus, Propel, Lake Country, Meguiars pads. Just wondering which ones everyone prefers and if you know a good place to purchase them on the net!

Thanks

Whichever pad you end up choosing I recommend that you get a cutting, light cutting, and polishing pad in a small 4" size and have a few polishing and finishing pads in a larger size. Many PC users including myself find that 4" pads not only aid defect removal with abrasive polishes but also find them easier to get into tight spaces on the car. I personally have lake country pads and have only had one problem with them. I was using a 4" polishing pad and after 3 hours of polishing my car with PO85RD i went to take the pad off to wash it and the pad had fused with the backing plate.

I would suggest you should get good results with any of the pads mentioned. Preferences play a big role here. It is not the pads which make the big differences, it is you

I find this interesting. Can you explain why you used a 4" pad with a finishing polish on the entire car. Not flaming, just curious.

I have to also add, why 3 hours with a finishing polish

Because it was my first time using the polish and I wasn't used to how long it took to break down so I had to redo areas a couple of times. Also when doing the vertical panels everytime I moved the light stand I found more swirling. There was also a 1/2 hour break in there for dinner and time for taping off trim and such. I wasn't really in a rush either. The reason I used a 4" pad is because I use smaller pads for defect removal no matter how big or small.
