Pads For UDM

Hi Eveyone,

I am a Newbie who is about to buy a UDM and I need help choosing pads. I would like to use the 5" backing plate that comes with the UDM. I am either going to get the new DAS II pads intended for the machine(most expensive). Or going to get the 5" LC CCS pads which are cheap from Danase. Is it ok to use the same size pad on the same size backing plate? And does anyone have experience with the vibrations resulting from the 5" pads on a 5" backing plate?

Thanks in advance...I can't wait to order!!

If your a noob, I would say use a 3.5" backing plate on the Danase 5" pads. You can use the 5" backing plate, but one wrong move and you've got a mess.

I agree 100%...the 5" CCS pads are THE best pads I have used on a PC....I have both plates..the 5 and 3.75 inch....I started with the smaller one....but switched over to the 5 later and if careful you will be okl..but to be safe the 3.75 is a good one to start with..

I'm a noob, too. My UDM arrives today and I'll use it tomorrow. I got the 5" pads. I'll post back here tomorrow night to let you know how I made out. I've never used a machine to polish a car before.

i've got that set up, the 5 inch backing plate with the 5 inch LC CCS pads from danase. the plate is actually 4.75" so you get a little wiggle room but i have yet to try it out on my car. seems safe if you are careful using it.

Thanks Matrix, I look forward to reading your feedback. Good luck! So the backing plate that comes with the UDM is actually 4.75"? Can anyone else confirm that?

Any other opinions on pads?

I am pretty new to using my PC. I first used 6.5 inch LC pads and while they worked well, they didnt seem to be too user friendly. I am going to try some 5-5.5 inch pads or 4 inch pads after I make my next order.
