NXT vs NXT 2.0

My only gripe w/ the 2.0 is that it's still a little blotchy compared to a carnauba. That's my gripe w. every synthetic I've tried. Carnauba gives a more even shine, IMHO.

I did a black 05 Porsche 911 with it a couple of weeks ago and the hood was blotchy. Sprayed it w/ some Quick Detailer and it evened out quite a bit, though.

Just used 2.0 on my Speed3 and MDX this weekend. Although I can't judge durability, it sure is easy to apply and remove and leaves a very slick and deep finish. Now I'll have to wait several weeks to see what the durability factor is.

:chuckle:

2.0- I find it OK, I guess, but it was really smearing oil or something like that on the paint finish. I have a black colored car and they say it's because I need to apply it thinner and leave it on longer for proper drying. Next time I'll leave it on for 1 hour at least. I find that if I apply it any thinner, it will induce swirls as there is minimal lubricity between the applicator pad and the car finish. I don't know anymore, I'm a little perplexed at this point.

I've used both (NXT extensively) and NXT 2.0 for about six months now. Here is what I think...

NXT 2.0 is definitely an improvement over what was a good product to begin with. Some specific areas of concern:

Ease of application: NXT 2.0 definitely goes on easier and comes off easier. That's saying a lot because the original was pretty easy.

Post application feel: NXT 2.0 feels slightly "slicker" than the orginal.

Look: Deep, dark and very wet. (I had to detail a neighbors black accord to attest to this as my cars are white and silver - not exactly the most conducive in evaluating the look of a wax).

Long term durability: A bit better than the original, but nothing spectacular. One of my cars is a daily driver, which is NOT garage parked and exposed to the elements, the other is a recreational use vehicle which is garage parked.

I did a full job on the daily driver including a wash, clay, paint cleaning, polish and two coats of NXT 2.0 (12 hours apart) about two months ago. During that time I put about 2,000 miles on the car, including a long road trip that took me through some elements (rain) and a lot of bugs (northeast bugs, not the mammoths in the south).

Originally the car was sheeting water off like crazy. After about six weeks I noticed that it wasn't so great. I ran my finger across the paint to see if there was any wax left and it was pretty "squeeky" (indicating little or no was left). Surface tension was minimal. In other words, it was time for another coat.

My tests show on the non-garage parked daily driver, you can expect about 6 weeks (which is fine in my books) as detailing is my hobby and very therapeutic, I like getting out and waxing.

On my garage parked car, I'm on about three months with the 2.0 and it is still going strong. Gave her a wash this weekend and it is still sheeting and beading. No signs of wearing down.

HOWEVER, I should mention that I have been using the NXT Spray Wax with the garage parked car regularly during this period as Meguiars recommends this product as a "booster" for the NXT 2.0. I don't know if that has extended the life of the NXT, but I've used the spray twice in three months. I also use the ultimate quick detailer to keep the slick feel.

I've used a lot of different waxes in the 17 years I have been detailing (including Klasse, Turtle, Zymol, Zaino and Poorboys etc...) and I haven't found anything I like better (all around) than NXT 2.0, when factoring prices, performance, appearance and ease of application.

I am a big fan of the new stuff. Could it last longer? Sure, but frankly I think it does pretty well.

Here's my NXT 2.0 result. I like it, but again I find it smudges oil on some parts of the surface. I'll try to give it more time to dry.

I have never had an issue with smudging oil, nor have I heard of anything like that. Did you contact Meguairs about that and see what they said?

BTW, your car looks great.

I agree. Drives me nuts! It goes away after the first wash, but I just don't know why it keeps happening. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I don't understand why it keeps happening despite different surface preps. Having said that, I think 2.0 is great on my black car.

Absolutely! That's why it's called a *booster*.

This will also skew your results.

The only way to test a LSP for durability is to avoid applying *anything* to the surface until it gives up. Anything else unreliable. Sorry. :(

I know, but you're kind of missing the point. When you detail as a hobby (I only do my personal cars) you are always looking for something to do around the car. Putting the NXT spray or the UQD gives me something to do during those days. If that extends the life the wax, that's just a bonus.

If you told me I had to wait 6 months before I could reapply anything, I'd shoot myself.

:chuckle: I know what you mean....please don't shoot yourself!...go wax the car, NOW. ;)

I was just saying that it's hard to recommend a wax, especially regarding durability, if you regularly *top it up*.

Nothing wrong in doing it...I do it all the time..except when doing a trial. Then I have to obsess over another family members' car to make up for it. :grinno:

I just put on my first coat of 2.0 and i like it better as well. It's easier to remove and doesn't smudge - even though it was almost 30 degrees with fairly high humidity. Nice shiny wet look as well - a great improvement overall!!

I saw this stuff on sale up here at Home Hardware stores for $19.99 - great deal i think.

That seems just a little melodramatic, but if you feel that strongly...it is surely one cure for Obsesive Compulsive Detailing !!!

Maybe instead you could detail the kitchen or the GF/Wifes car or the Bar-B-Q grill !!!

Better still, c'mon over...lawn to mow, garden to tend, cars to detail, pool to maintain, canoe to restore, garage needs cleaning, trim needs paint, driveway needs sealing (sure hope yer a young fella with lot 'o gumption) - LOL
