I'm getting my PC from autogeek with Poorboys products today and i was wondering if you guys have any last minute advice before i jump on the machine polishing wagon.

I will not start with the vette but probably the wifes 4runner.

I think my only question at this point is about how i should section off the area i'm doing. Do you guys tape it off? or do you just do an area and then eye it to start the next area...

Also, any methods/tips for cleaning the pads?

Any other tips is greatly apprecaited.

Thanks

I don't usually tape into sections. But some guys do to make it a little easier. It just seems like it takes extra time and the tape can leave residue and there's not enough benefit to it.

Cleaning the pads... I've had no problems just throwing them in the wash. They make that pad cleaning grit guard thing, I saw it in action at detailfest and it definitely works well. But there's not a whole lot to it, and its relatively pricey. If you're not doing it for a living, I can't really see doing it.

They also sell lots of foam conditioners and brushes and stuff, not too sure about all those. I do know that the pads to break down and wear with time, how well those products help this I don't know.

I'm sure you'll get varied answers on this though.

Yeah. Get a Flex. Not trying to be a downer, but if you were a family member, that would be my advice.

Just this week, a neighbor told me he was going to get a PC. I gave him mine and all the goodies to try it out. I wanted him to play with it before he paid for one. He came back self-convinced that the PC was a bad move. I have since introduced him to the Flex. He tried it and was thrilled.

Save your $$ and get the Flex to stay on the safe side and get the work done without getting vibrated into nerve damage.

I have to say, "bah".......the PC is perfectly suited for about 90% of any situation one would encounter. But.........a Vette would fall into that remaining 10%, lol.

Ive probably come across 2 circumstances that the PC would not fully accomodate in all of my details.

Yup. A PC can do anything, it just does it slower. Sure every pro rolls their eyes at them, but I've corrected wet sanding marks with no problem. It takes much longer, but as a newb, that is exactly what you want.

If money wasn't an issue, I'd have a Flex and a PC. But it is. And polishing mainly my own car means that I'm much more willing to spend a bit of extra time rather than spending an extra $200 on a FLEX.

If I was doing this full time for a living, I'd have a FLEX. But as an enthusiast without unlimited finding, I'm happy with my PC. Well, actually its a G110, but still.

Thanks for the replys. i got my PC today with all the products.

I have a couple of quick questions before i get started.

1. There is a white pad that the PC comes with. Is that a polishing pad? or should i just discard it for my LC pads with the backing plate?

2. i also got 2 microfiber bonnets. What are they used for? removing wax? i was always under the impression it wasn't a good idea to remove polish/wax with the pc but to do it by hand instead. Also, what would i put them on. would i just wrap them around one of the pads i have?

thanks very much for all the help.

if money isn't an issue, get the Flex. you still can't go wrong with the PC though, and it's versatile to where you can use it on carpets as well (with the carpet brush attachment of course)...
