Newbie switching to sealant

I'm new to the forum, but have found the advice helpful.

On my weekend, fair weather only car, a Mallard Green MGB, I've been using clay bar, GEPC, Meg. #7 and Meg# 26 with good results.

For my daily driver, and my wife's daily driver, both of which sit outside 8 to 15 hours a day, I've been using clay, and either Meguiars or Mothers 3 step, only using the cleaner step when necessary. The results are good, but not long lasting.

With winter approaching, I was thinking about swithing to clay, then GEPC, then KSG. I don't like to use any abraisive on my paint unless there are contaminants clay doesn't touch or swirls because I tend to keep vehicles 10++ years. Thus would the GEPC be more gentle or Klasse AIO before the the KSG, or, if no swirls, etc., would I be better just claying and using KSG? Time is a factor since I have three vehicles to detail (plus I usually do a couple of ederly family members vehicles every so often) and I have two year old who wants to play (or ride in the MG).

BTW, sorry for posting in Hall of Fame. I hit new thread from the home page and that is where it took me.

Also, I've been applying my products with a PC

I would just use AIO then the KSG, I did it myslef this past weekend for the same reason you mentioned. Im quite happy with the results, if you have some very minor swirls give the GEPC a shot but keep in mine AIO will remove then oils it leaves behind.

Good Luck

jgbowman- Welcome to Autopia. Like you, I have some cars that have been mine (or in the family) for a LONG time (Jag- 18 years, Volvo- 19 years). Also like you, I'm leery of over-using abrasives, though I've found that many older cars have MUCH thicker paint than one might think. And ALSO like you, I take care of some vehicles where durability is very important. So.. my $0.02:

Both GEPC and AIO are SO mild you don't need to worry about their abrasive qualities. AIO is basically NON-abrasive (seems more like a chemical cleaner), GEPC is SO mild it's just not an issue (I've used them both on single-stage paint). I can't imagine anyone EVER thinning their pant appreciably (or otherwise damaging it) with either of these two products. If you want to pick between the two for a base under Klasse SG, use the AIO. It's a GREAT cleaner and the perfect prep-step for SG. BTW, multiple coats of SG, applied 24 hours apart, can last an incredibly long time, sometimes nearly a year (I get OVER a year on infrequently driven cars).

Keep using the clay, too. Just be gentle with it. *I* can clay contaminants off my SG without removing an appreciable amount of the SG.

Klasse is incredibly fast to apply. I do mine by hand. AIO is just a wipe on/wipe off deal. SG is also a wipe on/wipe off deal if you apply very thin, and wait and hour to remove. And as Accumulator said, multiple coats (2 or 3) coats of SG can last a very long time. My car is parked outside 24/7 also, with two coats of SG, and after 3 months, there has been no appreciable diminishing of its protection. It's not as slick, but dirt just slides right off in a wash.

Just make sure you read the application and removal notes in the Hall of Fame by Jimwh and you'll have no problems.
