New PC 7424 Questions

UPS is delivering my PC 7424 Wednesday. I am going to try it out on the 4 year old Passat before tackling the 325. The paint finish on the Passat is in good shape. Washed weekly with only minor swirls. What order of polish, glaze and wax should I use? I am using, or have already Meguiars Show Car Glaze, Swirl Remover 2.0 (#9), NXT and the Sonus Paintwork Cleaner coming in the package. Any suggestions? Many thanks

well obviously the swirl remover first, I've never used 2.0 does it contain fillers? have you checked to see the abrassiveness of it? Would depend how it finishs down then would come your sonus cleaner maybe to get the paint surface clean after the polishing/dusting your going to get then your show car glaze, and maybe top it with nxt I guess if you want to. If your going to go for OTC stuff and you don't have alot of swirls you may want to give Meg. ColorX a try with your PC..may cut down on the steps alot.

I think you're gonna really like the Porter Cable 7424. I'm not expert, mine just came last Friday. On Saturday, I washed, clayed and 'polished' my new Rendezvous with Meguiars NXT. There's only a slight learning curve and the results were very, very good.

It sounds like your finish needs more work. I'd suggest you start with a really (Clayed) clean surface. Use a different pad for the polishing than for the 'wax' or polymer finish.

Wear safety glasses and remove any jewlery. Sounds silly, but make sure you keep the PC on the vehicle for starts and stops - at one point I lifted the PC to soon a got product in the face.

Go slow, I used a setting of 3 1/2, but since you'll be using an abrasive, you might want to start at about 2 or so.

Just go slow and inspect your work. You can always repeat your process, but if your too agressive, you can't go back in time.

I have to say that I'm very happy with my results. A super glass like finish unlike I've seen in a very long time. I'm now deciding how to tackle my wife's 6 year old Regal, that needs some extra work like what you're doing.

Good luck.

First off don't use anything abrasive on setting 2 on the PC it won't break down the polish, if your going to take swirls out your going to have to man up and turn the pc up to 5.5+ , even with normal waxes and sealants I use 3.5 to 4..
