well.. for my sister's birthday (was last week) i decided to get her car nice and clean while she is out at the olympics. It's a 95 blue taurus. It has sat outside all it's life and never was really waxed or washed properly. I havent' place my big order yet (with the klasse and blackfire and everything) so i went at it with Mother's clay, dawn, IHG, Meg #7 and meg #26. i really was impressed with the meguires products... both in ease of application and look. I've washed/waxed cars before.. but i didn't know what i was doing. This was the first time i've actually had a clue (thanks in very very large part to these boards). i'm still a junior autopian.. so please tell me everything you see i could of done better. Btw the paint was really bad.. i have a PC but no pads yet.. so i just covered up over them. Next time i'll work at cleaning the paint and swirls. ok here's the pics (sorry they are kind of large... not sure how to change that on the camera, i reduced the quality to cut on size.. if anyone wants to see the full quality ones i can put them on my webspace and give you guys links):

Holy cow, thats a lot of Pizza. I only order pizza once every other month or so, but I eat a whole pie myself (large dominos pie.) Keeps my cholesterol and fat down. But I eat 2 or 3 roast beef or turket heros a week.

Anyhow, about the car, very good job Dr. Jones. Really cleaned up the paint well. Meguiars #7+#26 is a great combo. Just not very durable. Just wiat until you try the Pc and Klasse......

Happy Detailing,

Jason

ok I have to note that Redcar GUY actually said the 'BEFORE' pics 'LOOK GOOD'....... I say we yank his autopian status for that one! :p  ;)

my oppinion: good job on the after, man! :up

You can leave the resolution at whatever you'd like, you just need a program like Microsoft Photo Editor or Adobe Photoshop or PaintShop to resize the pics.

The easiest way to resize (and 'cheapest') is with the photo editing software that's built into Windows (assuming you're using a PC).

Here's what you need to do:

1) Open your photo as normal, so that it opens in the "Microsoft Photo Editor" software (should do this by default unless you've installed something else).

2) At the menu on top of the MPE (Microsoft Photo Editor), choose "Image".

3) From the Image menu, choose "Resize"

4) A little window will open with some #'s, which will tell you how big the picture is. Change the Units of Measurement to "Pixels" (default is Inches).

5) Changing just one of the measurements will automatically change the second so that the size ratio remains the same. For board posts, I usually resize the width of my pic's to 400 pixels.

6) Save the changes and name the pic whatever you'd like.

Vioala! You're all set to post high quality, smaller pictures.

Mental note to self - remember to clean out garage and backyard if ever planning to post pictures on Autopia... :D

Seriously - that's a lotta damn cheese there....

Nice pics though - I still like #26 - I don't use it on my truck, because I've got too much trim that I'd have to mask - but for the price and availability, you can't go wrong with it.

In redcar guy's defense, he might have just thought the resolution was just a little poor because the pics are so big. The after pics look great. The second pic on the before pictures looked pretty bad. I couldn't tell if it was reflections I was seeing or something else. I guess it was something else. :xyxthumbs You did a really good job. Taurus's are notorious for having paint problems so you definatly did really good work. Bravo my boy. Wait till you get the Klasse though. It will blow you away.

Beautiful work Dr. Jones :xyxthumbs

I hope your sister appreciates all your hard work. I know my sister's wouldn't lolol...

from geekysteve ... "The thread killer..." after I post the thread always seems to die!) ;)

Steve ... Maybe you just fully answered the question, eh? BTW, I cut, pasted and saved your suggestion regards photo resizing. Thanks!

when i first posted the pics i had the before and after all togeather... then i decided to split them up to edit the message to just include the before... redcar guy replied before i made it into 2 posts. Thanks for all the praise... i know i did something wrong though ;)

now for an explanation of the pizza boxes... ;) my roomates got cupons (sp) for buy one large get one free... so about once every 3 days they order two pizzas (the place never takes the cupon though). We go to an engineering school in colorado, which sponsors a cardboard boat race down the local creek every year. my roomates and i are going to construct our boats out of those boxes.. that's why we are saving them. There were 38 this morning... (and before that he had another 20 or so that got accidently thrown away)

Optimum Winter Wash Kits - 8oz, 32oz and 128oz Now At ProperAutoCare.com

Keep your car glowing through the dull, cold winter with our Optimum Winter Wash Kits. The winter is tough on you and your vehicle. Cold weather makes conventional car washing unbearable at best and damaging to your vehicle at worst. Corrosive sodium and magnesium chloride (?road salt?) can wreak havoc on your paint, wheels, uncoated metals, and seals! Brake dust, if not cleaned regularly, can damage the painted coating on your wheel?s finish. Drive thru and coin operated car washes have long been the alternative but harsh cleaning chemicals and dirty brushes can cause just as much damage! With Proper Auto Care?s new Optimum Winter Wash Kits it is now possible to safely clean and protect your paint in the comfort of your garage.

All Kits Include:

Optimum No-Rinse Wash and Shine - Optimum?s No-Rinse Wash and Shine (ONR) is a super advanced wash solution that utilizes polymers to encapsulate and remove road grime and corrosive salt with out scratching or dulling the paint finish. Instead of stripping the wax coating like a harsh detergent, No-Rinse?s polymer rinse actually replenishes the wax coating by laying down it?s own synthetic wax protection. Clean and protect in one easy step with out getting sprayed by the frigid water running out of your hose while standing outside.

Optimum Opti-Mitt - was designed specifically by Optimum founder Dr. David Ghodoussi to work in conjunction with Optimum No-Rinse Wash and Shine. The high density foam and waffle design remove dirt easily while holding the ideal amount of solution to prevent marking and swirl marks.

Two Big Blue III Waffle Weave Drying Towels - A direct descendant of our famous Big Blue (The world?s first waffle weave drying towel) the Big Blue III has amazing absorbency and will dry your automobile in record time and keep you out of the cold!

Tips and Directions

Pull your vehicle into the garage and allow to it warm up to the ambient temperature in your garage. While it is possible to wash your car safely on days when the temperature is far below freezing the will be some water run-off that could form ice on your garage floor so use common sense.

Fill your wash bucket with warm water from a tap in your hose and add 1 oz. of ONR per gallon of water. On particularly filthy vehicles we recommend using 5 gallons. Please your Opti-Mitt into the solution and allow to soak for at least two minutes. If your vehicle is extremely filthy fill a second bucket with warm water and use it to rinse out the Opti-Mitt between sections.

Wash and dry one section at a time, starting with the top vehicle. Fully load the Opti-Mitt with solution and lightly squeeze out the solution over the section to be washed: To flood and encapsulate the dirt. Lightly wash using light pressure and keeping the section wet. On extremely dirty vehicles make sure to rinse the Opti-Mitt in a second bucket before moving to the next section. Dry the section by gently wiping with the first big blue towel to remove a majority of the water, then buffing to a high gloss, with the second towel.

You should not get any dirt transfer on your drying towels! As the dirt is encapsulated by ONR it should be flooded off of the surface or become entrapped in the mitt.

Complete the entire exterior of the vehicle, then wash, dry, and shine the door jambs were dirt and salt can hide. Finally use the left over solution to clean the wheels, tires, and wheel wells. We do not recommend using the Opti-Mitt for this task however, as the excessive grime can contaminate it. Instead use an old micro fiber cloth and wash each area twice prior to drying.
