Need Some Feedback

Right or wrong, some of my thoughts on various items in your post.
I think DC lost a lot of people way back when they weren't allowing people to post their work.
I think you are 100% right. I do understand why it was done at the time, though. It was felt that several proponents of products were posting pictures and others followed up with raves about the products used. Then the person that posted the rave would post a picture and the same thing would happen with another person raving about the products used. It was funny to me that the same members were almost always involved. While I think we all can figure things like that out for ourselves, the decision, (Good or Bad), was made at that time to stop the picture posting.
FWIW, A member once posted a picture of his vehicle where he "just knocked the salt off" that was the same picture posted on a different forum that listed all the steps he followed detailing the vehicle after he "just knocked the salt off". What was sad was that the people I'm referring to did great work in their own right. There was no need for any subterfuge.

I also cut way back on my visits when the whole Adam's sponsorship thing fell through. The reason for that being, not so much that I think Adams is the best, but more because Nick C is a very close personal friend of mine. A lot of things were said about him and Adams. I don't like when negative things are said about my friends.
That situation was one that I didn't entirely understand either, but there probably was more to the story than was ever told. I understand and respect your support for your friends, but keep in mind that even our friends sometimes do things that we aren't necessarily proud of. Sometimes I do things my friends aren't real happy with. :)

I realize that is all water under the bridge now, and I am making my return.
Quite true. New ownership and new ideas on how to run the site. Glad to see you back.

Troy,
I think you're doing a good job with the forum, and I like the fact that you stay active and post on people's threads. I appreciate your replies on the last detailing showcase thread that I posted.
My only comment there is that Troy is definitely giving it his best shot! :bigups

Winter has a lot to do with it IMO your attention is not on detailing since the car is frozen or its raining day in and out.

There are also a lot of lurkers who get to us via a search on yahoo or Google, they read what the want and then their gone.

I also think there are more detail forums that have come online in the last few years, some may sign up here but find another site to be more comfortable for there time...I belong to 2 other detail forums but rarely visit them or post it was just a look see more than anything.

Just my take on it

Especially for us not living in Sunny California:D:D:D

Dave makes a good point you get alot of lurkers or searchers, they find what they need then leave. You can tell just by the amount of members there are with a 0 post count.

Sunny my tail end its been raining for the last week or better...clear today but another cold front is headed in tomorrow.

I do think that for some people that are not obsessive about their cars, sign up learn what they want or feel comfortable with and leave....you also have a limited amount of subjects that we can discuss, at some point its redundant in some cases...I mean how many times can we hash over what is the best method to clean the wheel wells out, or is Nattys red better than P21S paste wax, etc.

What keeps me coming back to this forum is the family of people that I have met here...its not just about detailing any longer...we all have shared a lot more than just car detail info...again my 2 cents

Yeah you are right...I enjoy chatting with the people here...I still pick up some new information now and again, and like reading what some poeple are doing as far as process on their cars. Plus good place to discover new products.

As for which is better Nattys red or P21S, I like Nattys red on my wheel wells better.

I lurk awhile before I sign up and start posting. A lot of forums (not this one at all) seems like they don't want any new members. You see the new posters getting ripped apart. Plus if your totally new you don't really have anything to add to help people and don't know what questions to ask yet. I don't think having less sub forums would get people to post more. When I come I always use the new posts button so whatever sub forum it's in I will see it.

I like DC the way it is. I always have. This is where I learned about detailing and I have been visiting ever since. I do think that weather has a play in the lack of posting but the winter months are a great time to learn a few tricks to put into play in the spring time.

There are a lot of new detailing forums on the net and truthfully, they aren't that great. There is a lot more off topic or worthless chat than useful detailing information. So I don't foresee those sites lasting a long time, like DC has. I am always up for learning more about detailing and that is why I visit other forums but it is getting harder and harder to find useful information on other sites. I don't see many 'newbies' posting here and I wonder if it is because of the new sites or not. Or is it that overall there are less and less people interested in detailing?

I think the folks we have here now are great. I have to agree that some folks were run off by some things, and I am glad to see that some of those things are gone now. Especially certain "personas" that made a public spectacle out of banning people for minor issues when "they" were the ones trying to carry on the argument a lot of the time. It's very nice to see that kind of crap gone from here.

I also gotta say that the weather and time of year may have a little to do with it.

I have only been here for a few months so I can't really comment on the situation. My guess would be the winter if I had to throw something out there

Amen to this one....at one point some time back you really had to be careful what you posted for fear that you would get the BANNED flag flown in front of you...if you didn't agree or kiss a certain persona then it was the ban flag again...I for one like the way this forum is policed today, I think that its fair!

:exactly:

I think people are just not doing as much detailing as they do in the warmer months, hence fewer questions/posts. :howdy

Well, for about fifteen minutes some of that stuff was okay, but after the millionth time it got really, really old. We lost a lot of good members due to that kind of crap, along with deleting posts for no apparent reason. No reason to be shady about things. But I agree Dave, it's a lot better in my opinion as well, with several moderators who really play it low key. You don't even know they are behind the scenes taking care of things. :bigups

I think that sometimes newbs might feel that if they get only 1 or 2 responses that they are either being ignored or they might be leery of only taking the advice of 1 person. I'm not talking about a 4 page thread about the benefits of a 2 bucket wash, but some agreeing by another member(s) might give a novice more of a warm & fuzzy. ;)
"J"

Good point. I will remember that next time.

I agree completely.

I think so as well. I also commend you Charles for always posting with helpful info as well as PMing me information that is helpful. I also recognize that you try pretty hard to generate some posting.

I agree with this as well. I must not have been around before for all of the "fun", but I commend Troy and the mods on how they run this forum. For the most part, I don't ever really see any problem members, but we are given a lot of freedom here as far as linking and discussion of non-DC products. Keep up the good work! :dcrules

You couldnt possibly be referring to someone who would constantly make reference to a certain type of haircut from the 80's would you? Lord, that guy was about as funny as a kick in the groin. Another reason I left for a while.

And in some cases the reason quite a few left DC.....I'm all about mod's keeping control over the BB's but as long as it doesn't carry an agenda...to answer your question YES!:D

Thanks for the input and the kind words everyone. :dcrules

I'm commited to making DC better and better and the more participation the better as long as the rules about spamming and advertising are followed.

I'm also commited to keeping this forum an open and honest discussion forum where any product can be discussed as long as there is no hidden agenda.

The Fuzz handled things badly more often than not I will agree with that, but he also was right about what he was saying more often than not. Being right doesn't give you the right to treat people the way he did though which is why he is no longer a moderator here.
