My Optimum No Rinse Review

Since I found ONR I rarely ever do a conventional wash. Like others maybe once a year. I just got some Opti clean and actually just used it. It smells like the old ONR. My car is always garaged and I drive it maybe 2-3 times a week. I usually just wipe it down daily with a QD like QS or Slick, then at the end of the week I spend 20 min with ONR. After ONR I now top with Prima Hydro ( was using OCW wich is excellent too)

Between steps of correction you could probably use ONR as a QD or now Opticlean.

You guys who use ONR exclusively ... What about between steps of correction? Or final wash before LSP? ONR or traditional wash?

I use water based polishes, so cleanup with plain water is easy. If your not, a 50/50 water/IPA mix would be better for pre-LSP cleaning.

Scottwax - I posted this review up on the MR2 forums (I used to have MR2's) someone was asking if ONR has the same cleaning ability on single stage paint vs the clear coated paint that I washed.

Here are the replies that were posted, any thoughts?

I would really like to see how this works with a non cleared car as most of our MR2's don't have a clear coat unless we repainted them. Newer vehicles are always easier to clean because they don't have all the tar, tiny micron sized paint chips, oxidation, and fade that a 16 year old paint job has. So I guess what I am saying is.....go find one of your MR2 friends old paint cars (preferably black) and wash it with the stuff and give us a review then :).

Wash a teflon coated pan and then an iron one. Surface adhesion has a lot to do with clean ability. Such as when you wax a car. Go put wax on a car that has oxidation and then try it on one brand new how hard is it to get the wax off is there any difference then? Whole different ballgame. Just like a waxed car is easier to clean then a un waxed car. Newer (same type and paint process) cars are ALWAYS easier to clean than older ones. Unless it's been in a vacuum chamber in a dry cave :).

I appreciate your review, it has prompted me to jump on the ONR bandwagon - at least to give it a try. Winter is coming and I dread going to the local touchless carwash for even a quick rinse. So, I placed an order this past weekend and it will be here Friday. I'll be watching to see how it does on my wifes soft Honda paint. If it works without scratching her paint, then it will work on anything.

I've checked out Scottwax's technique on youtube and appreciate the time he has spent sharing his knowledge.

I look forward to more regular cleanings this winter rather than waiting for the weather to break.

Thanks, TerryD

Glad it helped! I really am impressed with ONR. I've found that washing is alot faster now with the ONR vs traditional washing.

1st off, I love the white MS3! Great body stying IMO. 2nd, you can add me to the list off 98% ONR washes on my vehicle. Never had any marring issues while using it, even when I owned my '05 black Tacoma & my '06 black 300C. However, you MUST practice the "safe" ONR wash technique and apply some common sense as to when to use it vs when to wash conventionally. ONR's great for daily drivers but not great for the dudes who take their vehicles off roading. lol.

Thanks! I love the MS3, best daily driver car I've ever owned! I still miss my MR2's, but for daily back and forth to work, it's awesome!

I've used ONR a few more times, including on my brother in law's black 06 Tundra and after washing, there were hardly no swirls in the paint (shocking since he had just purchased it!) and I really dig it and I think the more I use it, the more likely I will be to use it 98% also.

Everyone is usually apprehensive using ONR to begin with but the more you use it the more you realize it can handle without marring (as much so any other wash methods). Welcome to the ONR world!

Yeah, I've used it 3-4 more times this week and it still amazes me how well it works. I think I'm gonna be hooked on this stuff!

The new formula is improved in everyway. They got rid of the head throbbing chemical smell and the solution is even more slick now.

OK, another update. I used ONR yesterday to clean up my Mazdaspeed3 after the first big snowstorm of the season last week. It was plenty filthy, I didn't rinse it off prior to ONR due to time and weather constraints (it was in the 20s outside)

Definately better but due to the dried out salt all over it, definately could have benefited from a rinse before the ONR. I wonder if a pump sprayer with ONR would be good for a pre-rinse to get some of the salt out of the crevices when it's below freezing.

Definately gonna become a 98% ONR user I think, where that 2% will be after winter.

very impressive

I really liked ONR the first couple of times I used it, but I've been having bad streaking problems lately. not sure what the deal is, but it's really turning me off :(

Are you using more than 1oz per 2 gallons? Are your towels old or could something have gotten on them that won't let them absorb? Usually when I have streaking, it's just my towels.

towels are new. only used 3 times with ONR. maybe I'm not doing something right when I clean them

The quality matters, some towels won't absorb much. I have heard that boiling them will remove waxes and residues to make them perform like new. If you dry them in a dryer that you have used dryer sheets in or use fabric softener that will kill the absorption too.

I've recently received my first ONR gallon bottle. Tried it the other day and am very impressed with it. Dead easy to use and cleans surprisingly well.

How can you tell if I have the new formula? Does the label look different? The fragrance smells like how some washing powders smell.

I love ONR but I had some problems. Not with cleaning but with some polishes. 105 gummed up bad and then I did an iso wipe down on the next panel and well, it worked fine.

I love ONR (the new version does smell good to me) but I'm just wondering; has anyone well else had this issue?
