(MUST SEE) Edge adapter for Makita BO6040

If you are thinking about buying one of these new forced rotation ROB machines you must check this out first.

My only big complaint with these new machines like the Flex and Makita BO6040 is they only used 6 or 6.5"pads. NOT ANY MORE, atleast not the Makita BO6040 machine. I was considering switching to a Flex mostly due to trigger loaction until I installed Edges new adapter. This thing is awesome. Now I can use 4" pads.

And it accepts a handle which I really prefer since I am used to using a Rotary.

I don't know if it is my imagination or not but I swear the machine has less vibration and is so much easier to control with the edge pads on it.

So if you are thinking about picking up a new machine I highly recommend you take this into consideration. I have always had a Makita Rotary that has never given me an ounce of trouble (knock wood) so I figured the new Makita forced rotation ROB would be a good machine and I loved how it saved me cleanup time by not having to use the rotary for paint correction and much less slinging but now I am truly in love with this machine. Feel free to ask any question. Oh, and I am in no way affiliated with Makita or Edge, just a satisfied customer.

Be sure to do a long term report back on how the adapter holds together under the added power of the Makita.

Will do. I suspect the backing plate would go before the adapter. I will definitely give periodic updates as I continue to use it.

I figured I would show you guys how easy it is to put this adapter on or take off. Only takes a minute.

Remove Allen Screw.

Remove backing plate and it will look like this.

Put on first part of adapter. It is just held on by a new allen screw which is the same size as the allen on the original adapter.

With allen screw in.

Adapter on.

Now just snap on any size pad you want and buff away. :getdown

I did my BMW trunk deck and actually was able to remove some water spots that were in it with just my BO6040 the other day. I love this machine.

True, it spins a little faster but it doesn't have near the power the Flex has - orbits/throw. I've never tried either, but looking at the two, I'd buy the Flex just on ergonomics. I do have, love and use my 9227 quite a bit.

I still totally agree with this. I was excited about the Flex when it first came out, but the more that I learn about its limitations with smaller pads and overall pad selection, the more that I realize I have no reason to replace my PC.

The rotary is used for 90% of all my work, and the PC suits everything else just fine. I can't understand a reason to change to a more powerful machine simply for the small areas and instances where the PC is needed.

Hey, I agree. I was just stating that IF I were looking at the Makita B06040 vs the Flex - I would pick the Flex.

I already have a rotary and am very proficient with it but the reason I bought the Makita BO6040 is it has close to the power of a rotary and can handle 90% of my detailing needs, about 89% more than my ROB could and it saves me a lot of time on my details since it cuts my cleanup time down to almost nothing. When I use my rotary it sling stuff everywhere but my BO6040 does not sling at all. I also don't have to wonder if I am leaving any holograms or go over it a second time with my ROB just for a piece of mind, I know it will be hologram free. I do not see the Flex as being more powerful just because it has a slightly bigger orbit and spins slower.

If anybody is in the PA/Del/NJ border area (Delaware County) and has a Flex and would like to get together and compare machine let me know. I would love to try a Flex and would be more than happy to let somebody try out the Makita with the Edge system on it.

The Makita B06040 has true dual-action. With almost double the power of the PC the spinning doesn't stop when you apply pressure to the pad like the PC does making it single-action really. The vibrations are significantly lower compared to the PC also. I bought it because I wanted a better ROB than the PC, plus you get to switch it to forced-rotation mode. You get a choice of 2 modes. The Flex is a true DA machine also but only has 1 mode doesn't it? I keep the 3.5" backing plate on the PC now for doing small or tight areas.

I did buy the super-soft backing plate for the BO6040 which made it work better in the forced rotation mode. The EDGE adaptor looks good but but all my pads are the regular type. Anyone know if there is an adaptor out there so that we could use regular 6, 5 and 3.5" backing plates meant for the PC?
