MF Towels to remove wax...should they drag?

Good Morning Everyone,



I tried to buff out some wax this morning with a MF towel (purchased from CMA.....nice towel I must say!) and the towel seems to want to cling to the cars surface even after the wax is removed.



I'm accustomed to cotton cloth which lets you know when the wax is gone because it glides over the surface.



Is this normal for MF to do that? It does drag less than when it was removing the wax, but never glided over the surface.



The surface is slick to the touch and I tried it with a cotton cloth......I thought the cloth was going to slide off the hood by itself.



So what gives with the MF? I did wash the towels prior to use and air dried them...no fabric softener as you all recommended.

Since the MF weave is much denser than cotton terry there are more fibers and nap to grab onto the surface. Nothing is wrong with it, it's just the way MF is. Something for you to get used to, that's all.
 
The towel should easily slide off! IMO there are two reasons for your problem, one is that you did not remove all the polish and the other is that the towel is loaded with polish. You may have used too much polish?



Does a clean cotton towel slide off?
 
all i can say is the best way to remove wax by hand is a good thickMF towel keep turning so there is always clean towel you probley had too much polish on the towel
 
I had just started to buff out the wax and the towel was totally clean!



I thought maybe the wax wasn't fully dried yet.....first try with 26 paste wax....so I waited about 15 minutes......still the same.



No streaking and an incredible shine...very slick surface just not with the MF :nixweiss

Noticed same with MF towels when I purchased them 2 months ago. A charisma towel slides off my hood after waxing. MF towels do not. Just the nature of the denser fibers. But, MF does better in removing polish/wax. I use my charismas to remove polish on my first go around then finish off with MF.
 
Guys, you all use the term "denser" fibers. Sorry but I don't know where this came from but that is not the case here. I'm not sure what you mean by denser, I've been in the textile business all my life.



Are you referring to possibly a tighter weave, more threads per inch? If so then the opposite is true, a very tight weave will be slicker! Look at the difference between a broadcloth and a satin weave? Broadcloth is less threads per inch and is coarser, a satin weave has a very high thread count and is very slick and shiny. Another analogy are low and high thread count bed sheets. Which are slicker and smoother, low or high thread count?



Therefore, if any CLEAN towel, poly MF, natural MF, or even all cotton, drags on a clean polished surface then you have a towel that is too rough and could possibly scratch.

A bedsheet with a high thread count will feel smoother, but will it glide across a waxed surface easier than a bedsheet with a low thread count? I'm not so sure. We all agree that a high-quality MF towel feels smoother to the touch than any 100% cotton bath towel, but the bath towel will still glide much much easier across your hood than will the MF. Also, high-quality MF's seem to grab more than the cheaper MF towels I've tried at PepBoys.



GFarra, like the previous posters said, it takes a little getting used to. This "grabbing" by MF towels is especially noticeable when doing a QD session on your car.
