Megs SOFTBUFFâ„¢ Cutting Pad

I recommend that you *not* use the 7006 pad with your PC at this time.

Yeah I know, people use them with the PC all the time. I've done it too. But I'm directing this at SHICKS specifically; he's starting out with the PC. If it works for you great, but IMO SHICKS oughta go a different route. Heh heh, I do stuff I'd never recommend to others who are just starting out with the PC ;)

One of the big potential problems with the 7006/PC is that it can instill (micro)marring that will be very hard to remove.

A few notes:

-Meguiar's does not recommend using the 7006 with the PC, they *make* the thing and they consider it for rotary-use only.

- A fellow Autopian (working at a St. Louis G-T-G, with Mike Phillips there no less) cut *through* the clear on a Benz using the 7006/PC/#83.

-In my experience, the harshest products that'll work well by PC with 6.5" pads will work with milder pads than the 7006 anyhow.

Oddly enough, my take on the 7006 vs. LC yellow is the opposite of usdm's- or perhaps I should say that I find the LC yellow leaves less/shallower micromarring when used by PC.

Either use the 8006 polishing pad or get a LC/Sonus/other cutting pad. When I need more cut than a 8006 will give me I either use a different tool or switch to 4" pads. If you want more cut with the PC and 6.5" pads than you get with the 7006, I'd try something like the orange light cutting pad.

That must have been pretty thin clear- I've used the Burgandy pad with OHC and a rotary and not have a problem.

Yeah, it seemed weird to me too, but it happened (IIRC, it was actually *my* PC that did it  ) so I wanted to pass it along- sorta undercuts the "you can't hurt anything with a PC" bit that gets tossed around all the time. Oh, and the person who did it was no dummy, they took am old Jag to national-level concours honors. I forget which year Benz it was, and some of the earlier b/c ones *did* have awfully thin clear. Supposedly the pad just works better by rotary but :nixweiss

I only use the Meguiars burgandy pad on harder paints. Seems to work very well on Corvette and other GM cars. It'll definitely leave micromarring on softer paints.
