Looking to get a PC...some basics ?s

Stuff

New member
Hello. Just wanted to check before I go off and start buying stuff. Im looking to get a PC 7424. I have just spent the last couple of hours reading over the how to secsions. I think that Im going to try out the "perfect shine" method. Useing the Sonus SFX products 1,2,3 followed by Klasse all-in-one and then finaly the P21s wax. Just a few little areas Im lost on as I read.

1. No where have a seen anyone remove the old wax. They wash, clay, polish and then wax. I know the washing does not take off the old wax does the clay? Is it even important to take off the old wax?

2. Is it a good idea to use a new set of pads per car? Or is it just for a new color color?

3. From what I read in the "perfect shine" artical the Klasse will last several months (3ish). But the wax only 1ish. So you should redo the wax every month right?

4. Are these good to remove wax/polish? More over are products from that website good?

Thanks a lot.

Howdy Stuff,

This is only a brief of your questions (I know the more experienced members can add) and I hope it helps a little

I'll answer the wash part:

Washing is kind of an art in itself. You are correct in that it's not typically explained on a lot of posts how to remove old wax. A favorite for many including myself is using Dawn Dish Soap. Now there's a bit of a debate on this forum and many others on whether using Dawn can dry out your paint over time. I personally do a blend of Dawn and NXT Wash and it does the job well (sure you can just wash with pure Dawn and that's what a lot do). That will help strip the wax off. As for importance yes, very. Think of it visually in layers. The bottom layer say is the clear coat (of course there's many layers below that) and then a layer of wax/sealant. You can't get to the clearcoat without removing the top layer (unless you were not going to polish and/or glaze).

As for the others, I'm always learning and would like to know for sure before explaining

Cheers,

EDIT: I didn't notice your 4th Question: PakShak makes some of the best MF towels available IMO and the price can't be beaten with the Autopian Discount. As for those exact towels, I use those to buff on my LSP. For polish removal, I use the Ultra Plush.

I don't think you need to worry about removing the old wax. Although some have noted that a good layer of wax can possibly interfere with light polishing, the fact that you are claying and starting with a heavy polish will cut right through any wax on the car.

When you say "new set of pads", if you mean clean, yes. They don't have to be new. Some pad mfr's don't recommend washing (Meguiar's), they suggest wiping thoroughly while still wet and/or brushing clean when dry. This seems to work, but I wash my other brand pads.

If you are using a "beauty" wax, like the P21S in the "perfect shine" method, reapplying every month is a good idea.

I understand PakShak sells some fine towels, you might want to try www.exceldetail.com, www.microfibertech.com, and of course there is a good selection at Autopia Car Care, where you can use your discount.

Thanks a lot guys.

When you say wash your other pads do you mean soap, water and the sink or throw them in the washer?

New question: I was look throught the "perfect shine" again and I found one more step. After the Klasse All in one he recomends to use Klasse sealant glaze. Is this step really worth it? Think Im allready up to 5 steps or so just want to know if one more made sence.

Also unless the car is in real bad shape there is no real point to use SFX-1 right? and you could just use SFX-2,3 to get out lighter stuff but if SFX-2 does not work then try SFX-1. Hope you can understand that.

Thanks again.

THe Klasses Sealant Glaze is the protective shield you put on the car after you polish it with Klasse All In One. It will seal the cars paint from the sun. It IS needed and must be done.

If you are gonna use Sonus SFX-3 then you WILL need to go over with SFX-2 and 1. THe reason for this is that you will have to remove the hazing that appears after polishing with a strong product like Sonus SFX-3. If you do not polish with a lighter polish you will be able to see marks from the pads at night (believe me, i know :P). I did not do this on my personal car nor on my friends cause we ran out of time (stupid pads), so now i have to redo my car and his.

I can never remember which is coarser, the SFX-1 or the -3, but you probably don't need the real coarse one, it's apparently pretty agressive. IMO you should use the Klasse SG if you can afford the money/time; it's great by itself and even better topped with a carnauba (Perfect Shine method).

Pad washing: Some people machine wash, some hand wash...there are some threads discussing this.

Cool cool. Looks like there is some confussion among this web site. I remember seeing v1 and v2 of the SFX sereis. Im looking right now at the web site. SFX-1 is the restore the heavy stuff....SFX-2 is medium and SFX-3 is "final finish polish". Im only going to use 2 and 1 but going to buy 3 for a buddy whos car is really really oxidized. Im going to see if SFX-3 will work but it just might need to be repainted (will post pics up and check with you guys be for I start on it).

Wow Im full of questions. In the DAS system.

SFX-1=orange pad.......SFX-2=green pad.......SFX-3=blue pad

Im also planing on buying 2 more blue pad to put on the Klasse AIO and the Klasse SG. Then a finaly 1 more blue pad for the P21s wax. Eh thats a lot of blue pads I might just wash them between products. Thanks sound rightish?

I would put the LSP's (SG and P21S) on by hand, it just seems to be less trouble that way, although some do it by PC.

As Im looking around I see in the "how to use the PC" section the P21s being put on by a pad. It says that it is a finishing pad and the color of the pad is black. I can not find this pad in autopia.com. Would the finishing pad be the samething as a blue pad in the DAS system?

Also in the "Enhance Your Klasse Experiance" section it says that you can the PC to put on the Klasse. It says "The trick is to use a polishing pad with Klasse AIO and a microfiber bonnet to apply Klasse Sealant Glaze" Does this mean you put the bonnet over the green pad to put on the Klasses? Thanks.

Yes, putting the bonnet over the pad (they used to recommend the orange pad for the bonnet)...I would still do it by hand. ACC used to have a black pad, and yes, that seems right that the blue pad would be the current equivalent.

this is all so confusing. from what i understood. the sfx-1 was the strongest of the 3 meant for cutting. sfx-2 would be the next step and then sfx-3 for finishing???

Yep, got it Sanfi; I personally changed from SFX just do to the lack of variety in grades but yes, SFX-1 Yellow is their cutting, White-Polishing, Blue-Finishing (Glazes, LSPs)
