Klasse or FK1 products

Thanks in advance for your suggestions....

I have searched and read enough to be confused. I have also read enough to know both of these product lines are good.

What I have is a daily driver 2002 Honda Odyssey silver. It has not always been kept the cleanest, but this spring I will be trying to fix some of that.

What I would like is to clay the van then use some kind of cleaner/polish then a sealant or wax? I guess Im asking if the Klasse twins works best for this or would the FK1 215 AIO & pink wax work better. I dont have a problem washing & waxing 2-3 times a month with QD in between. This will all be done by hand. The easiest product to use and durability are factors.

I have never used clay before... any suggestions would be great.

Sorry for all the noob questions. And thanks again.

And Im thinking this is gonna be my first post. :shocked

I bought the FK1 sample pack, when spring comes or sooner I will try them out, for about $20 it's a nice deal.

But after the clay I would use a good cleaner like a Menzerna polish to get a good clean surface. Then use you Klasse or FK1 both good choices.

OK, Thanks.....

If a person was going to dive into the Finish Kare line to do what I have explained above, what would your suggestions be and what order. The order od certain products confuses my because some products seem to do the same thing.

wash/dry

claybar (suggestions???) w/FK1 425 for lube.

wash (with what?)

FK1 215?

FK1 2180 or pink wax or both, LOL

finish w/ FK1425?

and QD in between w/ FK1 425.

Am I making any sense? I feel kinda lost or maybe I have to many steps?

Thanks

Lynch, it was a hard choice. Both lines are very good, and the K-twins (aka Jeffs Werkstatt products) are always excellent on neutral colors.

Your process is basically good. I wouldn't waste #425 as a clay lube because it is too good to do that. Simply clay while you wash (means: after washing/rinsing, just throw on more soapy water and use it as lube).

#215 as needed; it removes imperfections, prepares a good base for the sealant.

#2180 (maybe ×2-3); seals the paint and gives high gloss, slickness(when hardened) and serious protection & durability. Do it twice to ensure complete coverage.

#2685 (Pink) ×2-3; adds further depth, wetness. Layer 2-3 coats and enjoy!

You can use the #425 whenever you want. Maybe you can use the 1000P as well. It is a paste wax, which is extremely glossy and durable as well. After these steps, do not wet the car for 72 hours. The whole package will cure together. As it crosslinks, it gains clarity, definition and slickness. And YOU WILL BE PROTECTED. For a silver car, a wet, very high gloss finish is beneficial, and because of your Ody has lots of character lines, the FK1s character will accentuate these pretty well.

Thanx Bence, Am I correct in assuming that between the clay and 215 that this will clean off any wax or sealant that might already be on the Ody?

Yep, the clay and #215 will mostly strip the preexisting layers. Alternatively you can use a 50:50 IPA mix (isopropyl alcohol & distilled water).

Have you ever polished your car?

I put some DP Spray Surface Shield Paint Sealant on it last summer. And it had been waxed several times in previous years.... so its not been COMPLETELY ignored. But I guess the answer is no... no polish, just a sealant. Or can they be considered the same?

Sorry if this is a little OT, but does anyone know the difference between 218 and 2180. The only difference I can see from the product descriptions is 2180 has UV protection and 218 apparently doesn't. Other than a savings of 2 bucks why would anyone bother with the 218

do polish the car - I'd use #330 from FK1. Skip 215 and use 2180 first for a couple of layers as Bence suggests. After that, either 1000 or pink wax. First choice is 1000 due to it's long protectiveness like 2180 - close to a year. Add pink wax every other wash for maximum gloss/shine/depth. m2c

The 218 is a conditioner which means that it contains cleaners. Not as strong as the 215, but it is pretty close to the 216.

The 2180 doesn't contain cleaners.

Lynch, based on the reviews, the DP product is really nice. However, without proper polishing, it will show just the half of the truth. Poilshing and sealing are different animals. Polishing opens the paint and abrades down a tiny little amount of clearcoat to ensure that the surface is level. This absolutely flat, smooth surface will produce the majority of the gloss. A sealant just closes the pores of the paint, adds protection and a little more gloss.

The application of waxes, sealants without proper polishing is similar to the dentist who doesn't cleans the cavities with the drill, just quickly throws the filling in. Would you accept that kind of treatment?

Thanks Bence, Can decent polishing be done by hand? No machine.

yes - you are cleaning the paint (polishing). By hand is just fine. The cleaner the paint the better the wax sticks to the paint. A most important step.

Theoreticaly yes. But I guarantee that your arms will fall off. Luckily, silver paint is not that sensitive, but you can't believe the difference until you see a perfectly prepped surface. Where are you located? Maybe a fellow Autopian could help you out...

...and I agree with Tamás; 2180/1000P/Pink is a killer combo!

I am in central IL... Im looking to get the Ody protected well and easier to keep clean and looking nice. The van already has plenty of imperfections in the paint.

This is whats in my cart...

215-1: Ultra All-In-One - Cleaner Polish Sealant

1000P-1L: Hi Temp Paste Wax

425-2: Ultra Slick Poly Wipe Spray Detailer

2180-1: Ultra Poly Wipe Sealant (Anti-Static)

2685-1L: Pink Wax - Easy On Easy Off

Now to throw a wrench into this discussion.... will all these products work well on a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Solar Yellow.... this paint is absolutly beautiful already, but between what the dealer put on it and what I have put on it I can see a slight haze.

I would get 330 instead of 215 rest looks good and the yellow paint will look fantastic.

:bigups :2thumbs:

But for the paint in better condition, the 215 would be enough. But I am with Tamás, get the 330. Or both. 12 bucks are no biggie.
