keeping car clean in very dusty and dry conditions !!! advice please.

just moved out to cyprus and bought my passat with me.

in the uk i was using poorboys ssr2 polish, then clearkote handglaze and then either poorboys ex sealent or p21 wax and it seemed to last quite a while but out here in cyprus its not lasting long at all !!!!

what i after is somthing i can use once every month or so that will protect my paintwork and also is quite durable ???

what can you recommend ?

if it helps my car is vw passat with inky pearl blue metallic paint!!

would any of these be any good (got them already)

p21s

ex sealant

vanilla hand glaze

megs stage 2 polish

ssr2

i also dont mind buying somthing else if it comes well recommended!!!

also can you recomend a way of washing a seriously dusty car without leaving loads of swirl marks??

What's the problem with durability? Is the wax / sealent simply not lasting as long? Or are you talking about scratchs / swirls / marring and the like?



As far as durability goes, nothing beats the Klasse twins. Klasse AIO, topped with 3-4 layers of Klasse SG and then topped with a carnuba, like Natty's blue, or P21s works great.



Out of what you have though, I'd probably go with 2 or 3 layers of EX sealent (allow to cure 24 hours or so between layers), and top it with P21S.



As far as washing goes, I'd just try to rinse it down really good before washing to remove the majority of the dirt so that it's not getting rubbed around the paint.

i dont mind layering ex but if i have to wait 24 hours between coats i have to wash the car again because its so dusty , and when i do wash it im getting loads of light swirling , so then i have to start swirl removing and start again!!!!!



what im after is somthing that i can apply one coat of and then just leave it for a month , as the passat is my second car then it wont get used that much (plus im scared of getting wiped out by these crazy cypriot dudes!!)



i was also thinking about a good car cover but not sure if this will damage the paint work at all

any opinions!!!

From all reports a good car cover does little if any damage. from what I have read there might be some concern over the inside seams of a good car cover. Some have said that the seams need to be covered with a soft material. It should be noted when ordering that the seams need to be protected.



With that said I think that a good car cover would do you a lot of good. Am considering one for my self that would be used for six months at a time. I am a little concerned about the effects of a cover on my vehicle with it being outside in hot weather and rain for six months with no attention paid to it for that entire time. So I am still on the fence on this one.



I do know that the protection that i had in place was no match for the weather in Texas. So I must decide on something. Am even considering rented storage. This is rather expensive for six months over the cost of a cover that can be used for years.
 
Since your car gets so dusty, you should probably try some anti-static stuff from the Finish Kare line, like 2180.



As for the washing, maybe get Poorboy's Spray and Wipe to pretreat the entire car?
 
Invest in a foam gun. Even when my dark blue metallic car is filthy, giving the car a prerinse in frothy foam lifts the dust and dirt off the paint and then rinses away before I even make my first wipe with a mitt.



As for what to use on your car, AIO/UPPx2-3 is a great combo on our color. It brightens up the paint significantly and gives great metallic pop. Plus, it doesn't seem to attract as much dust as a carnauba topped combo does.
 
id suggest that you give the dust a good rinsing off with a hose or power wash, then use the 2 bucket method to wash the car...that is to have one bucket with clean water to rinse your mitt/sponge before you dip it in the soap



are you using plenty of good soap?? i like meguiars nxt tech or gold class soaps
 
Just make sure to rinse it very thoroughly before washing. That should get the majority of the dust off.



And the 2-bucket method is always a good idea.
