YNOT
Poorboys Rules!
The wife and I had toyed with the idea of buying a third vehicle several months back, but we really couldn't afford much so I figured it was better to just forget it. Well, I recently stumbled onto this truck and asked the guy if he wanted to sell it and whadda ya know...he said sure! We went and picked it up Saturday down in southern Missouri.
It's a 1992 GMC Sierra. It's got 160,800 on the odometer, but the motor is a fairly new Jasper 350 V8 with roughly 38,000 miles on it. It's obviously lowered, but I'm not sure how much. Can't find any markings on the spindles/springs. The rear is notched and has a flip kit on it. The wheels are pretty trashed 20" Boss' (each one has curb rash) and the tires...well, there's 4 different brands on there and only one has decent tread. Hehe...I prayed the whole way home that they'd survive without a blowout.
Today I checked the oil and it was about dry...not good. So I changed the oil and filter to find that she only had about 2 quarts in her...hopefully no damage has been done to the motor. Now that I own her, she'll be on a 3000 mile oil/filter schedule so she'll be well maintained. I washed her well and cleaned the interior...it looks much better. The body is damn near perfect...a few minor dings which is to be expected considering it's a 92. No rust that I can find, she runs strong, shifts smoothly, rides pretty decent...overall I feel I got a great deal on it.
So...it's going to be my daily driver and as soon as I get it inspected and see if it passes, I can start spending a few bucks on mods. We're parking the Mustang and hope to only drive it in good weather...the wife is taking the Mariner now.
Future plans call for:
- Small sport mirrors (these 'dumbo' mirrors are killin' me)
- 15 or 16" Torq-thrusts or possibly some charcoal or black Coy's C5's (I wanna give it that classic 90's sport truck look)
- New suspension...I want her to sit lower with a nice "rake"...especially the front. It needs about 5" of drop up front.
- New painted front bumper
- New rear roll pan
- Snug Lid
- Many other small details as it goes along.
With that I bring you the pics from today...
As you can see, these tires are pretty bad...
Interior "before" I cleaned it...
Interior "after". I removed the seat cover he had on there only to find that the seat was almost perfect!
And the C-notch...
And the first 'mod' guaranteed to add a few extra horses...
I can't wait for this coming Friday as I plan to spend the whole day claybarring/polishing her to an even better shine!
Let me know what you think of my new 'toy'. And if the sky is a little brighter now...it's just me 'beaming' as I cruise in my new truck!!
