How to get started on the most basic of the basics

Been reading/searching posts for most of the morning. I am now throughly confused. I had no idea there were so many options. Also had no idea how little I knew... I have no reference point to even begin with. So, hoping someone will take mercy on me and get me pointed in the right direction.

I am not a serious detailer. Presently, just want to spread stuff on and remove it in as timely a manner as possible. Main purpose is to protect paint. Also, I find waxed vehicles wash easier/stay cleaner longer.

Currently use Zaino Z2 (occasionally Z5) and P&S Ultracoat - all by hand. It goes on a '07 4Runner, '08 GMC truck, 80's 911 with new paint, early 911 race car (with horrible paint - need repainted) and '07 Pace enclosed car trailer.

To start I "think" I want just want an orbital and the correct pads for spreading (the liquid wax mentioned above) and then the pads to remove it.

Can anyone get me started? It looks like PC 7424 or G110 are both good choices. But all this backing plate, pads size, pad type, quantity of pads, other needed accessories, how to clean the pads after use and all the other stuff I don't even know to ask has me totally perplexed. :)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just got started recently but I will try and help. If you ONLY want to use the PC, or other machine, for waxing/sealing I think you can probably just get a finishing pad. Not sure about using a machine to remove wax, someone else has to comment on that.

Cleaning the pads is easy. I just use dish soap and water, make sure I get the polish/wax out, and let it air dry. My PC came with a 4" backing plate, so I just bought 4" pads.

Hope that helps some.

Buy a Meguiars G110.

Buy a few Lake Country 6.5" Black finishing pads.

The G110 should come with the proper backing plate size.

Buy a few quality MF's to remove the sealant with.

Throw the pads in the washer when you are done.
