How Long Does it Take You?

Mid sized car, full paint correction (these are max times):

Wash, 1-1.5 hours

clay, 1 hour

compound with rotary, 2 hours

finishing polish with PC, 3-4 hours

wax/sealant, 30-45 minutes

tire shine foam, 15 minutes

About 10 hours.

All vehicle are different though. Some may take 5 hours and some may take 15 hours. It just depends really. Guys that are doing vehicles in 5 hours or less im skeptical about, i dont see how it is possible. Especially when your compounding/polishing. They have to be broken down and you cant control that, it takes as long as it takes so i dont know how they are pulling it off.

I just wash, clay and dry with waffle towels.

One hour to clay maximum

I do pretty much the same thing. I Generally use ONR, so I wash the panel as usual, then spray with the ONR QD spray, clay and wipe dry. Can do a car in an hour or less.

If the car is extra dirty, I will hit it with the pressure washer before doing the ONR wash.

Usually just the body. Maybe I overestimated the time a little bit. Do you guys use a the whole claybar on the car or do you cut it into smaller pieces and use each on a section? Also, are the guys completing wash/clay/polish/finishing polish/AIO/sealant/wax in 8 hours only the ones using rotary? How long do you guys with a PC usually take to do this?

When I clay I do the whole car, some people just hit certain spots, it doesn't take a long time to clay because it does it's job quickly. I'd be sprised if it took me more than 20 minutes to clay a vehicle.

When you say thorough, what exactly does that entail? We're talking body/wheels/wells, right?

I dont use AIO-Sealant products on customer cars, takes to long.

I just use a sealant OR wax. Wipe on, let haze, wipe off......done.

By AIO, I meant Klasse AIO, to clear up any confusion.

Dosent really matter if its klasse or not. There is to much time involved to use AIO products and then have to go over the vehicle again with a sealant. After your finishing polish step just lay down a wax or sealant and call it a day.

Is it not worth it then to use a paint cleanser like Klasse AIO? It is really no more involved than applying machine or finishing polish by PC - just apply and wipe off.

What im trying to say is the LEAST amount of times you need to go around a vehicle the better.

I do not use klasse AIO, Klasse SG, werkstatt prime, werkstatt AJ/T or Zaino on customer vehicles becuase of the extra step/s involved.

On customer vehicles i primarily use: #26, NB, EXP, P21S/S100 and UPP.

On your personal vehicle you have all the time in the world. If your doing a customers vehicle you only have so many hours to get it done so less steps the better.

I will use the products i listed on customers cars but its an up-charge.

Yeah, I think you could do alot to cut down your time. When I wash I usually will wash two to three panels before I rinse, for example, half of the roof(half of rear window) and both drivers side doors on a sedan, rinse, rear quarter panel, bumper and trunk lid, rinse, other quarter panel, roof(and other half of rear window) and doors, rinse, fender, half of windshield, half of hood, rinse, bumper, other half of hood and windshied, other fender, rinse. They I'll rinse the whole car one last time and then clay it. When I clay it I use the existing water on the car and spray some QD when needed for the added lubricity. I work the clay in a fast motion without applying any pressure to it and will rub the area until I don't feel anymore friction from the rough surface. You can feel and hear it, in most cases. Same as washing, I'll clay 2-3 panels and then dry with a WW MF towel. I can be done with this whole process in an hour in most cases, 1.5hrs is worst case scenario. Beyond that it's all dependant on the condition of the paint and the level of correction needed which dictates how long the subsequent steps take. Except for the waxing/sealing, I can usually knock that out in about 30min to an hour.

Depending on the size of the clay bar, I break it into 2-3 pieces and clay the whole car with a single piece, unless I drop it on the ground (which happened for the first time this past weekend). This way I have another piece I could use if I drop the piece i'm using.
