Horrible Bird Bomb!

Hey guys, great site you have here! Anyways, 2 days after claying and rewaxng my beauty, BOOM! Bird shit on the hood! This wasnt just any poop, it was vicious poop! I wiped it off the hood and but there was still some dullness on the paint. It looked like the shit ate through my clear coat but im not sure. The texture is smooth, as if nothing had happened, but the sight is horrible! Its only visible at certain angles but its still making me feel uneasy! I tried re-claying, detail spray, wax, degreaser, and a orange based cleaner, acetone but still nothing. Does anyone have any good ideas for restoration? Thanks.

Hmmm... What kind of sealant or wax are you using?

Thanks,

Dan.

I'm using Mothers Carnuba Wax and Nu Finish Polish (i dont have much $$$). Why? Does it look bad? :fart

Your car looks great! I suspect BookemDano (I loved that show!) is thinking something else might have protected your finish from the etching. I doubt it - If the conditions were such that it etched your paint in 3 hours - nothing short of a car cover would have helped in my opinion. I could be wrong though. :dunno

Is that a GSR you have there? I see the spoiler on the back ...

You guys sure were quick with the wetsanding recommendations. I would have tried to use SSR2.5 on PC then rotary before going to such a drastic step.

On another forum, I posted a question about whether sealants in general and Zaino in particular provide more protection against bird bombs. I've had a lot of bird poo on my car in the last nine months and have had no damage. I thought it might be due to using a sealant or to using a Zaino sealant.

The general concensus is that sealants might provide a little more protection than wax, but that damage from bird doo is more related to what they eat.
I guess I've just been lucky. Oh, well! Shoots that theory.

Still, you might want to try a sealant like Zaino or AIO, and see if it helps.

Regards,

Dan.
