Headliner cleaning

Quoting Dr. Evil from Austin Powers:

"I'm the boss, need the info?!"

Actually, I'm not the boss, but could use a little more info. What type of stain, what type of headliner (cloth, vinyl, leather, etc), what color is the headliner, etc...

a mechanic left some greasy hand prints on my head liner. I haven't tried removing them yet but the headliner is light gray and it's in a bimmer. I think it's molded fiberboard with a cloth layer over it.

The headliner is light grey cloth with fingerprints from dirt of unknown origin. Some are from dealer so who knows the others are just common dirt fingerprints from my two sons.

I'd use some Griot's Interior Cleaner first. That stuff has been a life saver for me (I just ordered a gallon of it, after running out of a 35oz. bottle). It has taken out coffee stains, grease stains, and other stains of unknown origin from carpets, seats, trim and headliners.

If you don't feel like ordering any of the Griot's cleaner, try some Prestone foaming cleaner. I've used this with good results as well. Finally, you could try a regular carpet cleaner, like you'd use on your home floors, but test for color fastness before trying that.

HTH. Good luck with the dirt!
