Good car for college, around $5K

I think the corolla would be a solid choice. I know they've improved the Cavalier in recent years, but was it 2000 that was the worst year for that car? Basically failed every crash test they did on 'em? :P

One nice thing about 1998+ Corollas is that they have a timing chain instead of a belt, so that's something you really don't have to worry about. I'm driving a '99 while I'm at school and while it's not terribly exciting, it's good for getting from one place to another.



I agree about the Civic suggestions though. Great cars, great mileage and there are lots of parts available for them. They're also pretty fun to drive.
