Ford Mustang or Acura RSX?

I need some car buying advice. I have roughly $13,000 to spend on a car and I want either a coupe or a sports car. I was looking at either a 2005-2007 Ford Mustang V6 or an Acura RSX Type-S. Which one would you choose? Or would you recommend something else?

This will be my daily driver by the way.

Anyway, what are your guy's thoughts? I would really appreciate any advice.

I love my mustang, But Im sure the fit and finish will be much better on the acura. The fit and finish on my mustang is not good, but thats not why I bought it, I bought it for the 400hp supercharged engine

LOL, a secretary's Mustang or a boy-racer RSX? That's an odd choice. How about the base RSX? It doesn't require premium fuel, gets a little better mileage, and still has pretty good grunt (depending on the year, the HP curve is identical to the -S up to the redline of the base car). Still a cop magnet tho, don't know if the Mustang is much better in that respect.

If you're only looking at those choices, then the Acura.

However, have you considered a Subaru WRX? Nissan 350 or Infiniti G35?

Never liked the look of the RSX, I think the Mustang looks much better, but between the two I guess I would still have to recommend the RSX, type-s preferably.

this thread reminds me of fellow autopian sftempest66 mom's RSX Type-S... :up

Yeah, I've looked into them. The Nissan and Infiniti are out of my price range and my insurance would kill me if I got an WRX.

You can get a 2003 350Z or 2003 G35 for that price. Nissan's V6> Ford V6

Ford- 3.8L V6- 170hp

Infiniti- 3.7L V6- 332 hp

162 hp difference.

Man don't get a Mustang V6! LOL They are dogs and you'll get better mileage and performance from the Acura. If you wanted a GT I'd think about it but the V6 and RSX Type S is a no brainer.

For what it's worth, this might very well be my next car (and seventh mustang):

Hondas are great cars, but are also appliances. I've had a 350Z Track and it was a nightmare at high-RPMs.

I would say the RSX-S. More power, better handling, looks better IMO, and probably better on gas. However, if the Mustang was a GT it would be a little more tough.

Have you actually gotten a quote on the WRX? My friend recently got one (20 years old with one ticket) and it's not that bad. I actually went from a FWD/Auto/Non-turbo car to an AWD/Twin Turbo/5 speed car and my insurance stayed the same. A lot of companies see AWD as a safety feature.

i beat v6 (pre 2005) mustangs in my little civic.. i like mustangs, but thats just dissapointing being beat by something that goes twice as far on a gallon of gas. tye rsx will most likley be a bit more expensive to insure... , but if you're a young guy like me, theres no such thing as cheap insurance anyway...u could try to find urself a Prelude, the SH models are decently quick and very fun to drive.. perhaps an older (2000ish) civic SI, the b16a2 and the drivetrain in them are pretty much bullet proof. btw, the rsx's (im not sure if its just the type s or not) run into tranny issues quite often if u beat on them.

Actually it's a 4.0L V6 - 210 HP, but still, I see your point.

Yeah, I've heard that they have some tranny issues such as grinding in third gear.

I'm kind of changing my mind about the Ford Mustang thing.

These are two diverse vehicles.

The Ford Mustang V6 is a fine cruiser (especially in a stick shift) and adequate grunt in daily driver use. The negatives are not as powerful as other coupes, gas mileage will not be much better than the V8 and basically non existent rear seats.

The RSX has a super light feel, great clutch feel, dart and shoot handling and typical (Honda/Acura) reliability. Negatives: cramped rear seat, power comes in higher rpms and every boy racer will want to challenge you.
