Don't know if this is relevant, but I used to detail my mom's '98 Explorer (and my dad's '89 XJS) when I was a teenager. By comparison, I'm pretty sure the leather in the Ford either wasn't real or was synthetic, OR coated like some people have said here. Since your car is only 1 year old, and the leather feels like that, its probably not real. Donno what you can do about it, sorry :/
Oh yea, back in the late 90's before internet forums were all the rage and I knew even less about detailing, I would use Eagle 1 leather cleaner and conditioner. I can't even find it OTC anymore (pretty sure its on the internet) and it did a pretty great job, as long as you give it sufficient time to dry. However, on my dad's XJS I'd either use Hide Food (or Feed, whatever it's called now) or the Eagle 1. I never liked the Hide Food, application always felt awkward and I was worried that I was not applying it evenly.
