Thank you so much for this web-site! I have learned so much.

Simple first method: Wash and dry, Claymagic claybar, Griot's Machine #3 on Orange Griot's pad and Porter Cable, Meguire's Cleaner wax on Griot's Red Wax pad/Porter Cable, Buff out with Porter Cable and Terry buff bonnet. Next morning wax again with Mequire's NXT liquid wax on Red Griot's pad and Porter Cable. Without further ado...

Nice Celica and great results !

There are few things as satisfying as stepping back upon completion and admiring the finish on a freshly prepped and polished car :up

Thanks alot fellas.

Yes, it does feel really nice to step back after the fact and look at the work you have accomplished. What a rush!

A couple of notes... I got lazy with the 3m taping around the sunroof and paid for it hard. I had to clean up the pollish for quite a while. Will NOT make that mistake again! Luckily I didn't get lazy with the rest of the trim.

Griot's #3 machine pollish is EXACTLY as described by other members on this forum. It was a little to mild/fine for the work my paint needed. Don't get me wrong, it pulled the oxidation and haze out of the paint like a charm, but was a little to soft on the scracthes/swirls. I had to go over the car twice with the #3! It would have been faster if I would have started with the #1 or #2 I think. It was my first try with pollish and a porter cable for that matter, so I wanted to use a finer more forgiving pollish.

Overall, I am completely floored. My g/f came out and said the car looked "repainted". Wow!

Thanks again members for all of your invaluable information. I could NOT have done this without this site!

Thank you guys so much for the feedback!

Teknikal: I am on newcelica.org. Do you post over there alot? I've seen the name somewhere. And yes, everyone from those sites should find their way here.

Bobsealant: Coated in glass!? Wow, Thanks so much!

Ben Kenobi: I am slowly converting to the stealth fighter look. Soon I will be undetectable on the road. ;p

SilverLexus: Yes, OCD carland for sure. I have been messing with my car ever since. Wiping dust, quick detailing, you get the idea!

O4cobra/sQuashed: Thanks for the kind words.

Nice work.. I got a black celica too.. I am ordering my porter cable this week.. Close up mine looks kinda bad but after a nice wax (s100) it looks as such

LB,

Your celica looks great! Love the A-package TRD. I have the Kaminari Kit being painted right now. SHould have that on in a few weeks! I've seen your name around newcelica.

If you take your time, I mean REALLY take your time it WILL come out great. I'm not familiar enough with the products you are using, but if I can get those results with a super fine pollish like Griot's#3, then you should be good to go.

Under the wing? Get ready for a tired arm. It took me quite a while to work that out by hand.

Tape ALL of your trim really well. I swear you will save time.

By looking at your pic, you should come out the other side looking great. My car looked similar to yours after being waxed, but I was never quite happy with the final result.

Good luck! If you need help, I will help in any newb type of way I can! :woot:

Chris

PS: My celica is actually CARBON BLUE! But everyone thinks it is black, so it might as well be. ;p

Actually LB,

You've probably got enough clearance with that wing for the Porter. YOu lucky ^%$!

By the way, LOwe's carries the Porter Cable 7424 for 99.99. Then you need to find the 6" hook and loop backing pad. Best price you will find I think. I ordered mine online from amazon though.

Chris

Thats a blue car lmao!, no way haha.

Looks sweet dude.

ps QD that water line on the bumber, then you will have perfection :)

Jbm,

Yeah, I might as well have bought black. In certain light, the car takes on a weird midnight blue color. It actually looks more blue at night under the moon than during the day. ?

And yes, you caught me being lazy on the bumper. ;p

I am having my new kit put on soon, and was a lil sloppy with the bumpers since they are coming off. Good eye!

I was hopeing that the extra clearance would pay off one day lol..

My local lowes don't have 7424... I just order the PC from coastaltool.. 126.50 with shipping. comes with 6" Hook & Loop Contour Pad, 6" Counterweight for free too.I already bought the Sonus DAS Pad Kit (includes 5" FlexPlate, Orange Pad, Green Pad, Blue Pad, and Buffering Bonnet. It was only like 50 bucks if i remember right... It looked to be a good deal so i got it a month ago lol.

Oh and the trim... i got a rool of blue 3M type i used to use for autocrossing (i don't use it anymore.. i might have to again once my car is all pretty again lol) so i am ready for that :xyxthumbs

Would it better to use aerospace trim cleaner stuff as it is rubber? or does the QD do a damn good job?
