Finally starting garage (PICS)

The cedar siding is quite striking. Nice choice. It will weather well and is quite durable.

This is great fun watching your progress. Best of luck. :woot2:

Thanks very much.

I am going to have to treat the ceder as I hate the silvering effect that comes about after weathering.

Next on the list is electrical once the ceder has been finished.

Some more pics here, they are not great due to the weather being very overcast and it was starting to get quite dark.

The door should be ordered by now so the ceder lining will be finished off, the space between the roof and frame will be covered with plywood and then ceder lined.

After the ceder is finished the electricity will be run in, plans so far are two downlighters for each truss, and probably 3 double sockets.

No flourescents because once the roof is plasterboarded it is quite low and flourescent tubes would probably come in contact with my head! haha.

John.

Ya, the ceiling looks a little low. Yet, all the work is done on the ground so enjoy the space!!

Look forward to your pic's as the garage approaches completion. Just remember you cannot have enough electrical.

Are you using stainless nails with the cedar? Just thought I would ask since I got burned once sidding using cedar with galvinized nails.

Im sure they are stainless as we have encountered this since I am working on a few projects that are conected with University just now and have encluded this as one of them so some research had to be done as I am doing Product Design and Development Engineering; being my fourth year the research has to be pretty extensive :( lol!

Ill keep you guys updated.

Really, thats good information to know if we plan to replace any if they deteriorate!

We are planning on protecting the wood as it stains and stained wood isn't a good look! lol.

Can you get Silkkens stains in your area, or Cabots? Both make great stains for cedar in transparent and semi-transpartent as well as a clear.

Ill look into that, it would be nice to keep the grain in full view since it is a nice looking piece of wood.

Nice rotty btw!

Thanks, He is the nicest dog I have ever had! Very well behaved, great with kids! Just like the "Good Dog Carl" books. A clear sealer would look great, buy will have to be reapplied more often to keep the wood from turning grey. A semi-transparent stain will still show the beauty of the wood buy will last longer between applications.

Ok here's some updates people.

Got the ceder lined, the roof has been replaced and it was applied using a technique with heat ??? lol.

The ramp is now complete about 9 tons of stones all in were needed to merge everything!!!

Ok thats the first one, the car is about 1.2m wide and has about 0.75m either side plenty to move around and open the doors.

Again as you can see plenty of space at the sides and about 2m at the front since there will be some shelving and I may be working on some projects so need some space up that end.

Enjoy!! I did.

Looking real good! I like the cedar. Remember, you can never have too much lighting!

Do you live next to a church or something? That's a nice stone building next door.

Yeh thats the church, its unfortunately getting refurbished as 3 houses.

I dunno how they will achieve it but hey I have my garage and I can go in and hide while they build, as long as the dust doesnt come in and touch my baby. lol.

I really like how its turning out! Looks like you will have plenty of room to work on your car. Im wondering why you used stones instead of paving a driveway?

Its pretty common around here, I dont know anyone in our area with paving! lol.

I think its just inkeeping with the period of the house etc, and paving weathers very quick here to be honest.

Yeh plenty of room to work around the car I can't wait to properly polish it and give the interior a really good clean.
